GRS20HRHW4 Gibson Refrigerator - Instructions

Took a while to get the front off the drawer, but once we did, it slid right into the part you sent and YOU SAVED ME MONEY! Thank you so much!

The instructions given to me by part Select were very good.I replaced the Timer- checked the heater with oham meter it was good- checked the door weather striping it was good and replaced the thermostat with new .So at this point I may need to call a professional unless some one has another solution.

The rod, that looks a like a oven heater element, had burnt into and was not defrosting the coolant coils in the freezer was freezing up. I took the back panel off from inside the freezer and let it unthraw. The freezer coils were held into a frame with only two screws which I took out. I unplugged the heater element and easily pulled the coils out as little as possible, taking care not to break the copper rods with the freon inside them. On each side of the coils I had to take off a silver aluminum strip that held the element close to the coils so I could get it away from the coils so I could pull the heater rod straight down. I then fished the new piece up through the coils,which is a little tricky because of not room to move,then put the strips back, pushed the coils back into place and attached the screws and hooked the heater element back. Screwed the back panel on and it worked fine. This was my first fridge repair.

Thermostat-Thawed freezer, took out drawers and loosened drawer track(back screw)to help remove back panel. Removed five screws from back panel with nut driver and slide panel up and out. Removed thermostat from coils. Two wire connectors pulled apart. Spring loaded connection on coil pulled off. Placed new part from partselect.(reversing sequence) Timer-Took two screws out from behind kickplate at bottom left of freezer. Pulled connector thermostat out of connector. Replaced with new timer. Turned plastic dial on timer until it clicked. Frig turned on, one week ago. Everything appears to be fine.If it doesn't freeze up in the next two weeks, I will start feeling real good.

I first thought the defroster heater broke - took the back wall of the freezer off and cooling fins were fine. Then took the defroster timer out and opened it up. The contacts were badly burnt so the compressor and fan ran during only part of the cooling cycle. Replacing the timer took less than 5 minutes - turn off the power, remove one screw to take out the control box, cut the ground wire (new timer housing is plastic and does not have a ground connection), remove two screws to unmount the timer, unplug the old timer, plug in the new timer, fasten with two screws, put the control unit in and fasten with one screw, turn power back on.

It was do easy I removed the front of the drawer pleced on the new one and I was done .no tools needed.

Watched video on Part Select which shows you how to replace the thermostat with several good pointers. Very easily done and now the freezer works great.

I remove the covering over the coil and defrost the solid frozen coil with luke warm water which took about 7 min. and replace the thermostat which I knew was bad.Wasn't sure about the timer,so I replace it too @ that price which took about 3 min.Put back and replace everything with clean-up,about another 10 min.

per the video..easy installation....unfortunately the temperature did not improve. We still have a refrigerator temp in the upper freezer.....and a "cooler" in the refrigerator section

After some troubleshooting to ensure the thermostat and heating element were working, determined that the defrost timer was the problem. With the defective part, I was able to manually advance the timer to activate the defrost cycle, but it wouldn't do so on its own. Unplugged the refrigerator from the wall. Timer is located in the refrigerator compartment at the very top. The compartment houses the cooling thermostat, the light bulb and the defrost timer. Using 1/4" nut driver, remove 4 screws holding compartment cover to top of fridge. Lower a bit to access electrical wiring. Wiring harness can be unplugged to work on the timer away from the fridge which makes it a bit easier. Timer is mounted with 2 phillips head screws. Remove screws and unplug timer from wiring. Install new timer, plug in wiring, secure with the phillips head screws and remount entire compartment.

1 went with maj 69% said defrost timer. NO. 2 went with second choice run cap NO. 3 went with my thought, ( PTC Starter ) why not, most exp part. Fixed the problem.

Ordered parts and three days later the parts were at my door. Took longer to clean stuff out than to replace the drawer supports.

I watched the videos (they really help) and followed the steps. Everything went smooth with no surprises
