MTS18GBSDRWW General Electric Refrigerator - Instructions

I haven’t received the wheel yet. Originally ordered on Dec. 13. Hadn’t received it by Dec. 20. Finally shipped on Dec. 22. Tracking said it was expected to be delivered on Jan.2. Not delivered. Then it said it was still on its way but it was unknown when it would be delivered. Still waiting on Jan. 6. By far the most expensive economy shipping ever, as this refrigerator is in a rental that can’t be rented until a wheel is installed.

Well, when I opened the package the gasket was bended in half so I opened it and put it first on the floor and after some minutes I put it on the refrigerator side.
Then I took a screwdriver and easily removed the old gasket, cleaned the the channel where the new gasket had to seat or be inserted. Then I took the new gasket and put it on place and begining on the top right corner I began to insert the gasket into the channel from the right to the left. Double check to see if was ok
I continued on both sides from top to the bottom, one by one.
When I reached the bottom I began from the left to the right inserting the gasket into the channel. To complete the installation at the bottom I had to pull the gasket a little to properly reach the corner and I finished
To make sure the gasket was on place I hit the gasket with my bare hand all around and I was done.
It was very easy, I just followed the instructions given by the manufacturer

After replacing the light bulb and still no light I manually pushed the light switch button. Intermittently the light would come on then go out. I removed the power plug from the power source then replaced the light switch. I plugged the refrigerator back in and now I open the door the light comes on and stays on until the door is closed.

The old switch was hard to remove. Thinking that I may have to loosen the wires I used a socket wrench to remove a clamp. This was unnecessary. In the end the switch did come out using a large size screwdriver. The problem was that the expanding plastic tongue is not visible from the ouside so you have to try to feel your way around. If i had ordered the replacement before and not afterwards I would have seen this before hand.

I removed the cardboard cover from the back of the fridge. I was not sure where to begin then the compressor kicked on and a flame came from the bottom of relay that mounts to compressor, so i unplugged fridge and let cool .I removed part that burned and looked on this site to identify what it is. The part has been updated to a new design which is now a white plastic. I also replaced run capacitor .Put the new parts on and it was back to working .The sleeve that comes with the new run capacitor didn't fit under the lock wire clip so i left off.

The part was delivered promptly. Then, to quote Raymond from Georgia:
I pulled the old one out, and put the new one in.

Installed the new timer.

I ordered two switches, replaced both with a knife in 10 minutes. Interior light works, thanks.

Removed back panel
Unplugged wires to motor
Removed motor & fan assembly
Attached new fan to new motor
Attached motor to motor housing
Reattached wires
Reinstalled back panel

Ordered the frame and put it in.

The original design is poor. The evaporator fan is mounted in an upright position just below the ice-maker. A plastic grate mounts over the fan assembly to allow for air circulation. Unfortunately, random chips of ice from the ice maker can fall into the fan, causing the fan to shear its blades. Replacement of the fan blade is relatively simple (accept for having to completely unload the freezer and remove all back covers, the ice-maker auger motor assembly, and the metal evaporator cover). In order to mimimze this from reoccuring, I installed a 1/4'' mesh metal screen over the exhaust ports on the cover. Thus far, this has worked well to keep ice chips out of the evaporator fan.

Simply take off the back panel. Remove the old run capacitor which is attached to the compressor by a white part. It pulls right off. You will have to unplug two wires. I took a pic to ensure I plugged the wires back up the correct way. Then I attached the new capacitor to the white part and put on the sleeve that was included, plugged it back into the compressor and zip tied the excess part of the sleeve. Once done plug fridge back up (always unplug electric devices when doing maintenance) to check before replacing back panel. It may take a few minutes before it kicks on.

Pipes out the glass from existing shelf while in place inside refrigerator. Remove broken shelf. Install new shelf. Clean and replace glass. Easy job thanks to finding the correct part from Part Select!
