ZISP480DXBSS General Electric Refrigerator - Instructions

Went on this site, found out many others like me had the flap door stuck open problem, it would not shut after you went for ice. I needed a new solenoid that opens when the ice is dispenced and closes afterwards not allowing the warm ambient air to come up the shoot which frosts the ice and melts it. It shipped QUICK and now I have a working ice maker dispenser from the outside. Its been 2 YEARS of opening the door and reaching into the ice maker bin for ice! Thanks PartSelect

I had made a dry run at the repair after watching the instructional film provided by part select and it seemed easy enough.
The only problem was that i needed to use the electrical cord extender (provided) to adapt to my plug type. That presented a problm because it needed to be tucked up out of the way to allow the ice bin to clear. Just needed to be creative in how you wrapped the cord behind the ice maker unit before snugging the attachment screws.
Cranking out ice like crazy.

First, turn off power - since I did not want to pull the refrigerator out on my wood floor I tripped the circuit breaker to that circuit and opened door to make sure interior light was off (ensuring power was off). This unit has a bottom freezer, I took out all shelves, ice maker and all parts in the way of accessing back of interior of freezer section. Removed back plastic section by removing one screw in middle top of back panel and prying it out. This was a bit difficult as it was in there a bit tight but once the plastic warmed up it pulled out ok. This revealed the compressor section and temp sensor that was attached to the copper coils with of all things - a zip tie! In pictures of this that I looked at on various web sites the sensor was on a metal bracket attached to the coil so it made me wonder if tf the factory took a shortcut? I cut the old sensor wire, stripped the two wires 1/2", and connected them to the new sensor wire with butt connectors, I put some silicone into the ends of the butt connectors to prevent moisture from entering into connectors and wrapped the connection in black electrical tape. I then "attached" the sensor to the coil using a zip tie, put the plastic back piece back on, inserted everything I took out and put power back to refrigerator. It's been 3 days and temp of refrigerator is stable, ice maker not clogging up, and compressor not running all the time! So far so good.

Let me start by saying, I usually hire something like this out but figured I would give it a try. The install was fairly straight forward, however it would’ve been nice if the instructions would have been more useful. Instructing me to remove one screw to release the auger and solenoid enclosure wouldve been nice. There were 3 other screws that I didn’t need to remove and they were the ones holding the auger in place, which made assembling that much more difficult. Once to enclosure was removed, and the solenoid was exposed, it was a seemless process. I would however, recommend paying attention to or taking a picture of the connections on the solenoid. I was lucky to remember or got lucky. Regardless, I was able to complete the project successfully. If I had to do it again, I believe it can be done in 30 minutes or less.

Ordered new solenoid so the flap would close. That did the trick.

1. Remove outside panel (snaps off)
2. Remove Control panel 4 screws
3. Remove Solenoid by taking out 2 bottom screws
4. Remove solenoid weight from crank lever
5. Place new solenoid weight from crank lever
6. Insert weight in solenoid
7. Place back 2 bottom screws solenoid
8. Place back Control panel screws
9. Snap back into place outside panel

I removed the top vent and unplugged the ice machine ,took the back cover off the freezer.Removed the old fan which was pretty easy(unplugged it after I took the housing out for easy access) I plugged the new fan in and put everything back in the order I took off, and yada yada yada we have cooling.

Find a video on youtube. Remove 6 screws. Pull the Styrofoam part up before removing the panel. Unplug and Remove the fan assembly.
You will need a NUT DRIVER to take the bracket off the backing plate.
I ordered the red grommet and the red bumper. You need TWO of the red grommets if that is the problem. My freezer was about 8 years old, and the grommets were worn and compressed, the bumper was not. Replacing these parts DID NOT FIX the problem. I needed a new motor.
I probably disassembled and reassembled this stuff about 7 times before I got all the parts and tools. Each time I had to unload the freezer.

Actually, a friend did it with me watching. He took out about 6 screws, removed the back plate and the old motor and installed the new motor when he realized the hole on the plate that goes in front of the motor was on the wrong side! This would have been a snap and done in about 30 minutes if it wasn't for the hole on the wrong side. So he drilled a hole on the correct side of the plate, using the old plate as a pattern, and it works fine!

The trouble with DIYers is that they don't have very much experience with and the benefit of several repairs on the same appliance. So they must rely on their mechanical abilities and the youtube help of Steve. So they must resort to eliminating the variables as their diagnostic approach. In my case I was unable to find the exact description of my problem, so I began with what seemed like the most likely and the least expensive replacement. So after I had replaced the water valve, the micro switch and the main board I finally found the problem was the water filter by ordering and installing a water bypass valve which I did not have readily available at the start.

Fairly simple fix. You must first uplug refrigerator, then take off the inside freeze door panel, approx. 25 screws. Then you must take out the trap door assembly approx. 6 six screws. Pop off the LED panel, requires the use of a flat blade screw driver to pop it off. Remove solenold by removing 3 screws, replace with new solenold.

- With a plastic thin putty knife remove the trim panel around the water dispenser. There are plastic clips along each side that just need to be slid inward slightly to release the trim. The thin plastic putty knife worked great for this.
- Remove the electronic panel by pushing the top of the panel down slightly to pull out at the top. The bottom will then come out easily. Remove all electrical connections so the board can be detached completely.
- Unscrew the four screws at the corner of the Dispenser Housing Shield. Before removing, note the position of the wire runs for re-installation.
- Take some pictures of how the old Ice Funnel is attached then remove it and reinstall the new Funnel.
- Make sure wires are in their proper place before screwing the Dispenser Housing Shield back in place with the four screws.
- Connect wires to back of electrical panel and angle the panel into the proper place at the bottom and then pull down slightly to go in the top.
- Reattach the trim by gently pressing the plastic tabs into each slot.

Took the old filter out and put the new one in.
Easy Breezy!!

Remove the one screw holding the unit in place, unplug it, slide in the replacement, plug and screw it in.

First tried just replacing flap/spring and mounting. Still did not work so then order a new solenoid with piston that attaches to mounting. That solved problem completely. Corrosion around piston prevented fluid movement of flap. Easy fix after watching video. Saved a bundle I'm sure. Thanks !!!
