GTE25DBTARWW General Electric Refrigerator - Instructions

We used partselect troubleshooting appilication to figure out what was most likely causing the problem and what part would fix it. The suggested part was the freezer's defrost thermostat and the probability that this would fix it was 52%! The diagnosis made sense because when we emptied the freezer to see the part, the coils were frozen solid with a thick layer of ice. We thawed the ice and the refrigerator worked fine for a day and a half at which point the ice was back and the refrigerator was warm again. We ordered the part. It came in 2 days. We snipped two wires and removed the old part, twisted the wires of the new one in place, taped it up and it worked! Fast, easy, cheep! $8 For the part, about the same for shipping and no $70 service call. Selectparts is bookmarked for "house repair"!

Replaced top sensor in ref. and top sensor in freezer as well as defrost thermostat - works as advertised - easy fix, saved a bundle thanks to this site! Parts ordered and shipped quickly and without complications!

1.- ordered the thermostat replacement.2.- unplugged unit 3.- empty unit, removed racks too(freezer only) 4.- used a hot hair dryer to melt the ice,kept drying water inside the unit. 5.-used electrical pliers carefully removed damage thermostat.6.- putted on new thermostat, used standard wire connectors to keep wires together and wrapped them with black electrical tape. 7.-gentle replaced thermostat back in contact with the other pieces.8.- returned back racks and all removed pieces,drying all water from melted ice.9.- plugged it,...done

I had already replaced the icemaker and solenoid valve and had not solved my problem. After I looked at the back wall gasket, it was obvious that the element was getting too hot. Installation was really simple- unplug refrigerator cord, remove frozen food and racks, remove light cover and back sheet metal by removing 4 screws, cut and splice wires to new parts. Reinstall.

I followed the step by step instructions on provided by Part Select. I replaced the coil heater and temperature switch.

Using a nut driver, I removed the panel that covers the freezer coil. Using wire stripper/cutters. I replace the Temperature sensor and Thermostat. I also replaced the heater element that comes on when the freezer goes into defrost mode. Worked like a charm. The original problem was the freezer compartment would thaw just enough to start the melting process then freeze everything and build up ice to the point where the ice that was produced from the ice maker would just turn into a big block of ice. Everything is working perfectly now with only an hours worth of work and about $75.00 in parts.

We watched the how to install videos online then installed the new parts. Quick easy and now our freezer is defrosting like it should. Thanks Parts Select.

I replaced both the Defrost Thermostat and the Temperature Sensor located on the top of the cooling coils. I ordered them because they were the least expensive items that addressed my problem. They did not correct my problem. I then ordered the Main Control circuit board. I installed the board in about 15 minutes. Finally my freezer returned to the set temperature of 0 degrees F. Problem solved

After removing all the parts, the bins and a large glass fitted shelf or lid, on top of the two crisper bins I then removed the whole frame the three glides are mounted to. The frame is molded into one large piece matching the whole horizontal space of the refrigerator, so it is wiggled loose from its space. I lifted out the whole thing and placed it on a surface on which I could work while see everything I was doing. With no screw (both top and bottom of the U-shaped gripper “clevis” end are solid) or other type fastener that could be removed I finally just pried the "clevis" of the center glide that grips the front of the frame. This clevis grips a set of small plastic studs that fit into matching round indentations in the top and bottom of the clevis jaws. It’s necessary to keep the stud from slipping back into the first indentation while opening up the other side of the jaw so that both are free at the same time and the clevis will slide sideways. Using a butter knife because it was a good fit and stiff enough, I released the top, and then the bottom using the knife to bend it a little bit. The clevis opens up just enough to allow the edge of the frame it’s gripping to be released from its grip. The new one is put back in exactly the same manner but in reverse. The opposite end from the clevis simply tilts up until it can be disengage and reengaged in the same manner

1. Removed and tested defrost heater, tests good. 2. Reinstalled defrost heater. 3. Removed and tested defrost over-temperature sensor, tests good. 4. Reinstalled over-temperature sensor using soldering iron, dielectric silicone grease, and heat-shrink tubing. 5. Removed the control printed circuit board and checked for blown fuse's, fuse's are all good. 6. Removed the defrost relay from the printed circuit board using soldering iron, bench tested the relay, it is good. 7. Soldered defrost relay back onto the circuit board, and reinstalled control board. 8. Removed and bench tested evaporator thermistor, the resistance is out of specification, ordered new thermister. 9. Installed new thermistor using soldering iron, dielectric silicone grease, and heat-shrink tubing. 10. Re-assembled refrigerator. 11. Installed temperature monitoring and recording instrumentation for 72 hour test. The defrost cycle is running correctly with a defrost termination temperature of around 90 deg-f. The defrost cycle ran twice while running the 72 hour test. 11. Removed test instrumentation and Put the unit back into service, The thermistor was the culprit. I bought the right part on the first shot, nice.

I watched the video then ordered the defrost timer it was here in two days (ordered late saturday arrived tuesday). Spent $. 16 On two wire nuts and went to work . The repair took one hour including defrosting the coils with a hair dryer . Your website is my " go too " for parts and repair. I spent less than $20 including shipping !

Part select was great. I entered the model number and was able to locate a list of problems associated with my refrigerator. I was able to view a repair video, courtesy of part select. I followed the instructions and the repair was simple. The hard part was trying to remember how everything went back together. I unplugged the unit and removed the freezer racks. I then unscrewed the back panel within the unit. I then placed an old towel inside the unit and used a hair dryer to melt the ice build up inside. I also removed the light bulb and then removed ice maker. I then located the old defrost thermostat and replaced it as demonstrated in the video. I then located temp sensor and replaced it. It took longer trying to secure the rear panels than the actual repair. My mistake was I had secured the ice maker unit before securing the fan panel. I would secure the large panel first, then followed by the light bulb/fan panel. The ice maker should go in last. It has been 8 days since the repair and it still working! The total cost was $27.
