GTS22KBPB General Electric Refrigerator - Instructions

Needed a square head screw driver.
Appliance man wanted $80 to come out plus parts. Part cost $20 and took 10 minuyto out on. Had to empty half the refrigerator. That took longer than the time to fox

I removed the top shelf and then the existing slide. I replaced the slide and then the shelves.

The only hitch was the need for a special screwdriver which cost $5.

This was so easy I think it took me 2 minutes. I am not very mechanically inclined but that didn't matter! Works perfect thank you!

I took out the drawer and the glass shelf.
All that was required after that was to unscrew the old part and replace it with the new one using the old screws. Very easy!

Replaced Temperature Sensor and now it is getting cold.

I removed the old broken part and replaced with the new part. Simple as pie, my husband was so happy and impressed I had it done by the time he got home from work!!!!

A very simple repair that took less than 10 minutes. About 5 of that was getting a screw driver and putting it back in the tool box. Simply remove the drawer, unscrew the two screws. Install new rail using the same two screws.

What I liked the best about PartsSelect.com was, I ordered the wrong part mistake. When I called to inquire about the refund/return of the un-used part, they were very polite and curtious. She said the return info would be in my e-mail in a minute. She even asked if I wanted her to order the correct part right then. I didnt have the model number with me at the time or I would have. You guys ought to win some sort of website Emmy. I found your site as I was searching for a new motherboard, thinking this was the cause of the temperature control problem. I took the time to go through the little diagnostic process you offer and I discovered that the much less expensive defrost thermostat was more often the root cause of the problem ($8 vs $160 for the new motherboard). The part arrived within 3 days and the installation video was enormously helpful. Removal of the rear panel was more difficult than suggested on the video. I'd suggest removing the freezer light fixture before trying to remove the panel as it is nearly impossible to bend the metal panel around the light bulb bases. Anyway, the whole job cost me about $16 for parts and delivery and the fridge is running fine. The combination of the diagnostic tool and the installation video were fantastic...far beyond expectations.

Must have spent 10+ hours solid looking up info on the internet. Our ice maker had broken years ago, the door flap had broken years ago and I thought this was the end of a fridge after just 6 years 8 months.

GE offered a "broken appliance" warranty for $379 for one year, with no guarantee that when a technician came to look at it, the repairs would be covered by the warranty!!! No thank you, you just want me to buy a new fridge. Okay, challenge on, I'll fix it myself.

I took everything from the back of the freezer out. Spent an hour defrosting (note: use hair dryer next time). Ruled out a motherboard problem (even though it appears I have the old style motherboard), removed dust build up from fan intake. I could not get the heater to come on, so I cut off the thermostat defroster and connected the wires together. The only way to get the heater on was to set the freezer control to 0 / zero.

So, ordered part from partselect.com and it arrived the next day!!!. Installed and unit appears to be defrosting okay after a week.

So now I'm back to order the ice maker part. The door flap will wait for another time.

Note: I've put in the time for novices and recognizing how the freezer is constructed.

Time includes taking everything out of the freezer section, unscrewing everything, diagnosing problem, fixing the problem, putting everything back. I would say allow 3-4 hours and pat yourself on the back if you do it quicker.

Note#2, if you have a large build up there is a hole in the floor of the freezer section. If the water does not evaporate it will run out of the hole and into your wooden floors! Place towels both inside and outside the unit just in case!

This was generally an easy fix. The work was in such a confined area of our side by side and my husbands shoulders are broad so that was a little more challenging but overall a quick, easy and cheap repair doing it ourselves without having to call a appliance repairman.

Remove back cover on frig, unplug wire on fan motor, remove one 1/4 screw from top right corner of fan cage, fan cage will come out with a little twist, take note of tabs on fan cage for reinstall, remove two more 1/4 screws, take care to watch where rubber bushings are located on motor and ground wire location, fan blade will pull off of fan shalft easily, install in reverse. Very simple fix.

I would recommend removing the dor first as I had to do this after fighting with the drawer to get it out.
There is a cap on the hinge that has one screw, then two nuts and the door is off. From there the drawer rails are easily replaced.

Simply followed the video -- VERY helpful... BUT: getting the bottom tab to re-insert into the holder after the motor was replaced was VERY difficult...!!! Until I discovered that I could move the refrigerant coil (upon which the tab mounts) just enough that I could get the tab inserted...!!! "Twas NOT as simple as it looked on the film...

Being able to move both the fan motor holder (with the tab) AND the coil made it happen, easily...

Bent the motor bracket down, then using a rat tail file, elongated the holes in the back panel of the refrigerator to secure the fan in the "centered" position. This was a problem that was with the refrig. since it was made. The parts involved were perfect. NO problem at all installing them.
