On July 22, 2007, Bra'er Bear broke into our mountain home near Tahoe City, California and proceeded to get into the refrigerator and the freezer (at the top of the fridge) and dine on most of the contents of both sections. When the bear got into the freezer he/she worked over the food that was on
Repair was simple.....order the ends from Parts Select and upon arrival place them on the ends of the shelf. Hence, no tools....just fingers.

the freezer coils were not defrosting so they would ice up and cut off the cold air into the refrigerator side
there were three possible problems the timer, the thermostat, or the heating element.i replaced the timer first as that is the problem 65% of the time and that did not fix the problem, i replaced the thermostat and that did fix the problem. after watching the video on line from parts select i took the back off of the freezer from the inside, defrosted the coils with a hair blower and then swapped out the thermostat which pops right off and i spliced the old connectors to the new thermostat. the heat shrink tubing that came with the part was a little to big so i put a smaller peice on each side for water proofing. that is what the cigarette lighter is for to supply heat to the heat shrink tubing.now that i have fixed that problem i may tackle the ice maker next

It would freeze up or not cool at all, depended where the clock stopped.
Removed the lower trim panel from front of fridg. and loosened two screws enough to turn it about 1/4 inch so the screw heads were in the larger holes. Pulled it out disconnected the wire connector and transfered the heat shield and screws to the new clock, connected the wire connector and aligned the screws. tightened them and job done. Has worked like new sense. Thanks Roger

Refridgerator compartment warm but freezer frosty
First I replaced the defrost thermostat, then I realized that the evaporator fan would stop turning periodically. I could restart it by spinning the fan with my finger. The fan is behind a cover in the back of the freezer. If you remove the cover and check on the fan when you hear the condenser fan in the back running. (They seem to run at the same time.) It was easy to replace the fan and the new one is more powerful than the original. The refrigerator runs fine now. Thank you for this great site. Saved me a lot of $$.

Plasticglides broke that hold the deli drawer up
Due to age and excessive use, the plastic glides that are located on the underside of each refrigerator rack were either badly cracked or broken. It was obvious that the drawer was going to let go soon unless I fixed it. I called the local appliance in CT where I live and asked them for a price to get me the parts(if still available) and what the price was. After 20 mins. on phone trying to make him understand what I needed, he finally found the parts and told me they would take about a week to get and cost $150+ tax. I was shocked and told him I'd call him back. I went online and found PartsSelect.Com and the woman was extremely helpful and told me the parts were in stock and would cost me $56.00(incl frt.) and NO tax. I gave her my credit card no. and the parts shipped that day and I had them in 2-days. It then took me about 20 mins. to remove the old broke glides and I now have a refrigerator that looks and acts like new!!! Pays to shop and I can't say enough about PartsSelect.

Freezer wouldn't go in to defrost cycle
After some troubleshooting to ensure the thermostat and heating element were working, determined that the defrost timer was the problem. With the defective part, I was able to manually advance the timer to activate the defrost cycle, but it wouldn't do so on its own. Unplugged the refrigerator from the wall. Timer is located in the refrigerator compartment at the very top. The compartment houses the cooling thermostat, the light bulb and the defrost timer. Using 1/4" nut driver, remove 4 screws holding compartment cover to top of fridge. Lower a bit to access electrical wiring. Wiring harness can be unplugged to work on the timer away from the fridge which makes it a bit easier. Timer is mounted with 2 phillips head screws. Remove screws and unplug timer from wiring. Install new timer, plug in wiring, secure with the phillips head screws and remount entire compartment.

Freezer dripped water and items thawed but compressor ran.
Instructions from partselect were very clear and probable cause made it easy to narrow things down. I have the manual for the refrigerator that shows the location of the defrost timer. Very surprised that it turned out to be a cheap and easy fix.
