AFI2538AEQ Amana Refrigerator - Instructions

It was easier than I had anticipated. Just had to make sure that I was very careful in removing the old part so I did not break any of the good plastic that I needed in order to install the plastic temperature control to the new part.

First I removed the pantry drawer; then the two crisper drawers and glass shelf. Then I removed the hex screws that held end cap in place. Removal of cap from refrigerator was complicated by the adjustable temperature control - it is loosely attached at the back of end cap and also has to be removed to get cap out. Gentle persuasion accomplishes this. Getting the slider off end cap also a bit difficult. Then I removed the drawer glides. Reversing all steps was fairly easy and the rest of the "fix" went well. I wished that there had been some written directions - or at the very least, a diagram of how all went together. All in all was still cheaper than repair person.

Removed the top glass above the vegetable drawers and slipped the center rail in place. And I would like to add that I would do business with this site again!

Popped out with butter knife and unplugged 3 prong connector and reversed with anew switch.

But, unfortunately it got broken again exactly same way as before.
So, I ordered same switch again for 2nd time.

Maytag should recall that Rocker Switch and build with better materials.

Popped off the control panel at the top behind the door. Found the thermistor and replaced it, cutting the wires and splicing the new one in. Immediately the warm section of the refrigerator was getting below freezing temperature readings, so the cooling vent was not opening. I put the old one back on and the temperature readings went back to being accurate. So this was not the problem. I believe now that the fan somehow is not blowing enough cold air up. So now I'll probably buy a fan motor and maybe a blade and try that. Otherwise the computer module I priced at $500 so I hope it isn't that. I replace the fan motor a few years ago already.

I removed and replaced the right pantry end cap, as well as the drawer lid.

disconnected the power chord, removed 8" cover at back of refrigerator, disconnected 4 connectors, unclipped the pc board and removed it. replaced the board in reverse order, plugged the power chord back in and performed the coding procedure, which is done with the refrigerator door open, in accordance with the instruction sheet provided. real easy and without the hassel of getting a repair man.

Don't try and remove the front/handle from the broken pan, you will break it and its double the price of the pan, just use the small hammer to break the pan into smaller pieces and remove handle from them then the handle will just snap onto the new pan. Piece of cake!

Once the part arrived, which was very quickly BTW..all I had to do was remove the old filter and then just screw the new one into place....Now I just happen to be both female and blonde but was able to get the job done in less than 15 minutes (that includes opening the box) and with very little water dripping from the old filter!!! Looks like I could work as the Maytag repair woman soon!!

Removed the food bins and lower shelf. Unscrewed the end cap. Removed the drawer hinge. Re-installed hing on new end cap. Installed the new end cap. Re-installed drawers and shelf. DONE!

Great graphics on the website helped to correctly idenitfy the required part. Part arrived quickly and well packed. One of the easiest transactions ever!

took off plate in back, plastic cover, unplugged cables, changed out board held by clips. plugged cables into new board. Plugged refrigerator back in. entered refrigerator code into door of refrigerator using temerature controls. Regrigerator started cooling. Done

Simply fit the frame onto the back piece and lined up all of the anchoring plastic hooks to reattach. I had some minor difficulty in navigating the website but the customer service agent was very helpful and assisted me in purchasing the correct part. Thanks! Gretchen
