well my brother was over,he said he had the same stove with the same symtoms so we removed bottom tray of oven lifting from the back first then the front.there inback is the igniter.pulled wire out carefully and unplugged and unscrewed 2 small bolt's,replaced igniter remembering it is very fragile,plugged igniter in replaced insulation around wire,saved me from a new oven,thank you partsselect.ps part arrived the next day wow

I removed the oven door and floor, removed the two screws holding the old part in place, unplugged it from the wiring harness and plugged in the new part and replaced the screws. Fixed in 5 minutes.

I removed the various trays and racks to gain access to the oven igniter. I removed the one screw that held the wiring in place that goes into the body of the oven and pulled out the wires. I removed the wire nuts and safe ended the hot wires. I removed the two screws that held the igniter in place and replaced it with the new one. I reconnected the wiring with the wire nuts , pushed the wiring back into the body of the and stuffed new packing material into hole and reattached the plate on the back of the oven. Turned on the oven and it ignited immediately. A very easy job to complete. I would suggest to others to turn off the power. I knew what I was doing by working it "hot".

I unpluged the oven, removed the oven door by slideing it off the hinges, removed the racks, took the bottom pan out exposing the igniter,while attempting to remove the 2 screws holding the igniter to the bracket, I discovered that they where stripped so I had to use vise grips to remove them. I went to the hardware store bought replacements and installed the igniter. I then removed the protective cover over the wires, stripped them put on the wire nuts provided with the kit put the protective shield back pluged the unit in turned it on, checked it, then put it back together. The stripped screws were the only difficult part.

I removed the two screws that hold the element. This took most of the time because one of the screw broke. Then I unplug the power,took the igniter out and disconnect the wire and reverse the procedure.

I unpluged the electrical cord first. Then pulled the stove away from wall. Next removed oven racks, the bottom of the oven. Then removed the deflector plate over the burner. The next step I removed the broil pan. Now the oven area is empty. Nice and easy to remove the igniter with nut driver. Two screws and wire nut that are behind the stove wall. Now I just reversed the procedure. Very easy. The only thing I'm not sure where the insulation block go's. The wires go through back oven wall hole. There was no insulation there before? So I put a small piece just behind the igniter over the wire. Will this catch fire I don't know? If someone knows let me know. Other than that it works.

Removed door, took off old igniter. Had to redo plug , simple, because kit had wires to splice to make it work. Whole job was 30 min. Recomend to anyone. Saved $75 on a service call. Bill

Called a repairman who came to the house to check the oven and stated it could be one of 3 things but he was not sure what it would be. Stated 2 of the parts would be $200 and the third would be a rebuilt part costing $400. At his suggestion we ordered a new oven. However, before it came in the old oven started working so we cancelled the order. When it would not light a few weeks later, we went to the Maytag website and was directed to PartSelect. We found the list of problems, located the part we needed and received it within 2 days. We watched the video on the PartSelect site on how to install it. We paid the repairman $80 for showing up and he had no idea what to repair. We paid $42.28 total to repair it ourselves. Thank you!! Once I noticed the oven failed to light, I checked the igniter and saw it was glowing. At that point I did some research and found that the igniter could still be bad even though it glowed. This was the most common cause of ovens not lighting. A bad igniter will not glow as bright as a new one. An igniter had to draw a minimum of 2.8 amps in order for the safety valve to open and supply gas to the burner. After checking the safety valve with an ohmmeter, I found it to be good, so I ordered a new igniter. Once I received the new part , it took about 20 minutes to install.

I replaced the igniter, several people on this site agreed that this is the problem and they where rigth.I t was an easy fix. I live 60 miles from the next town and repair shop. I am out in the Alaska bush and can only get to my place by boat or by floatplane. Thank you all you self fixers for your help.

Make sure power to the oven is disconnected. Remove all shelves. Partially open the bottom door and yank it out so it is out of your way. The igniter is next to the back and upper wall of the oven inside the lower (broiler) compartment. The igniter is held by two screws which I opened using a 5/16 or 8mm nut driver. After removing the two screws, remove the back plate using a regular phillips screwdriver. Next, pull out the two igniter wires until the connector comes out. Pressing the side tabs disconnect the igniter from the connector. Connect the new igniter. If nesessary, replenish some of the insulation with new insulation that arrived with the new igniter. Push excessive igniter wiring back, remount the backplate using the phillips screwdriver. Remount the new igniter using the nutdriver. Remount the bottom door. Put all shelves back. You are done.

First turn gas off at pipe. Remove oven door, racks and bottom cover. Go to back of oven and unplug oven igniter. Back in front, unscrew 2 nut screws from igniter. To make things easier I tied a piece of string to the plug of the igniter, once I unscrewed the igniter I pulled it out with the string attached. When replacing I tied the string to the plug of the new igniter and pulled it from the back so the plug was able to come through, plug in the new igniter, screw it in place, replace the racks, covers, door and you're ready to enjoy some baking

I read some of the other comments and my problem seemed the same so I order the flat style igniter kit as suggested watched the video that Parts Select had, just to see any hidden tricks or tips .The installation was done in about 10 minutes it took longer to put the door and grates back in place simple. Phillips screwdriver was all I needed, I had a flashlight to see better cause my eyes aren't what they used to be
