RK960G402 Hotpoint Range - Instructions

I read your website repair testimonials by previous customers and used that advise to do the job. I liked the suggestion to use something to attach to the unattached wires so they don't slip back into the unit. I used two clothespins. I had one stubborn electrical connection to disconnect so it took a little longer -about 30 minutes. But it was a simple job to do and my oven works fine again. The item was delivered timely from the order date and packaged well. Thank-you!

New element arrived in a couple of days! We turned off breaker to oven, removed the old one which only involved two screws. Then we had to connect new one and re-attach metal square, only tricky part was getting the metal square positioned correctly but that was really not hard, just made sure insulation was covered and plate went back in same position. If we had called a eepair company it would have taken a week or more and probably been expensive!

I shut down the electric to the oven at the circuit breaker. Then i loosened the mounting screws and pulled the element from the back wall of oven. Then i disconnected the two leads to the element with a phillips screwdriver and removed element. Installation was done in reverse order.

Turn circuit breaker off.
Two screws detached the unit.
Another two screws to disconnect the wires. Reversed above operation for installation.
Turn circuit breaker on.
All fixed!

P.S. Shipping was very fast.

It was quite easy. We first turned the power off at the main power switch. Once the power was off, we removed the two screws that fastened the metal plate in the back. We pulled the old bake element out and removed the two screws that fastened the element to two wires. To fasten the new bake element we simply reversed the procedure.

Turned off breaker, unscrewed holding plate, unscrewed element from electric connection wires, replaced element and screwed all back together, turn on breaker, oven working fine now. E-Z!

First I shut off power to the oven. Then, using a nut driver, I removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and unscrewed the two screws that make the electrical connection. Removed the old element and put in the new one.

Turned on power and ran the oven for a while to verify that it worked and to burn off any oils on the element.

Pulled element out, tested for current, then removed two screws holding wires to element. Took old element from oven and inserted new element. Reattached wires with screws provided, and pushed element into opening. Replaced two screws securing element to back wall of oven. Turned the circuit breaker back on then checked to ensure the oven was working.

1. Turned the electricity off at the fuse box.
2. Took out the two metal screws holding the element to the oven back.
3. Unscrewed the screws holding the element coil, pulled the element out some and disconnected the two wires.
4. Replaced the old element with the new one.

My Husband did the repair while I wasn't home. He didn't bother to shut off the power even though he should have. He didn't electicute himself or burn down the house and the oven works great so I guess it was a success!

Throughout, I took care to not rest my full weight on oven door, although it's hard to work with arms extended. Shut off power to oven at outside circuit breaker, removed both racks, placed trouble light on open oven door at left to illuminate back of oven. Tilted element up to get at bolts. Used 1/4" socket set to remove two hex bolts holding burned-out element's plate to back of oven, pulled it out 3" to expose wire connectors. Held connectors still with pliers in left hand (to not bend wires) while loosening/removing connector bolts with socket set in right hand. Took effort to loosen. Removed element. Wiped oven floor clean. Positioned new bake element in same place, again held connectors still with pliers (left hand) and tightened wire connector bolts with socket set (right hand), pushed element back to original element's position. New element came with screws, not bolts, so used magnetic Philips screwdriver to get screws lined up (tricky), tighten new element's plate to oven's back wall. Removed trouble light, restored power, set closed oven for "bake" and "350 degrees." Element glowed hot in 1 1/2 minutes, ta-daah!
