RS422J1 Hotpoint Range - Instructions

I removed the oven door and racks. After turning off the power I raised the old element up to be able to access the screws. I undid the two that connected the element to the back of the oven. After pulling the element forward, I undid the two screws that supplied power. I reconnected everything and, after turning the power back on, tested the element. It worked perfectly. It has been used quite extensively since then with no problems.

First I removed two hex nuts holding the element's faceplate to the back of the oven and pulled the entire element straight toward me a couple of inches, pulling the element's ends and connections into view. I unscrewed the two screws holding the element ends to their connections, connected the new element, pushed it back in place, and screwed the faceplate tight again. The most challenging part of the whole process was finding the part number for the GE oven (it's on the frame of the storage drawer underneath the stove).

My husband removed the two screws that hold the element in place. He then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires. He then removed the old bake unit and replaced it with the new one. He reattached the wires and pushed the element into place. Then he put the two screws back in that hold the element in place.

The part was delivered in 24 hours with regular
shipping and was simple to replace. Uncrewed
it, disconnected wires from the old one and connected
the new one. Cost a little more than $30 including shipping and the oven works great!

When I told my husband I ordered the part and was going to fix it myself, he laughed and said I might not have ordered the right part for the problem and I should just buy a new stove.
The part was delivered the day before Christmas, just 3 days after I placed the order! I had read the stories of others fixing theirs and gave it a shot. It took me longer to find the tools then it did to replace the element!
I took the screws out , pulled the element toward me and disconnected the wires. Put it back the way I found it. Oven heated up in less then 5 minutes!

After supper, without biscuits, I removed the element by simply removing 4 screws with my nut driver. We went home and I immediately went online to your web site, inserted the old element part number, followed the ordering instructions, and in 3 dayd the new element had been delivered to our door. Several days later we were invited to mom's for dinner once again. I quickly installed the new element (perfect fit and works great) and enjoyed a great supper........with biscuits this time. Made sure oven was turned off. I used nut driver to remove nuts holding old element to back of oven. gently pulled element out of wall, taking care not to yank because of wires attached to back of element. Made sure oven was off again and then used nut driver to carefully remove wire leads from receptors on element. removed old element from oven and got the new element. carefully used nut driver to attach wire leads to new element. When snugging the bolts to leads, used pliers to keep leads on the element from bending. carefully replaced wires and rear of element into the space behind oven, and used nut driver to attach the back of element to the back of oven. shut oven and turned on to make sure it worked. it did. I was very pleased with my experience with part select dot com, and will be buying another element soon to replace the one in my other oven! Thank you

The first thing I did wrong was order the wrong part. Then later I did find the Model number on the side of the bottom drawer. I reordered the right part and turned off the electrical breaker. Removed the old element. I then installed the element in the oven with 2 screw nuts and pulled out the stove, took off the back panel and slipped the wire nuts onto the element. Very simple. I am really thankful there is a place to order the part and it came the next day after I ordered it. WHOW!

First I turned the power off to the oven/stove at the breaker box in the basement. Then I took the back plate off. Then I removed the two screws holding the wires onto the damaged element. Then I removed the two screws holding the element to the inside rear of the oven. Then I pulled the old element out and replaced it with the new element. I replaced the two screws that hold the element to the inside of the oven. Then I replaced the wires on the element where it protruded at the back of the oven. I put the back plate back on, slide the oven back in place and turned the power back on at the breaker and everything worked.

TURN OFF CIRCUIT BREAKER before doing anything even if oven is not turned on! If I hadn't checked voltage with tester before starting I would have made a shocking discovery.
1) unscrewed shield cover to get get at the element screws.
2) unscrewed element screws and removed old element - pulling connecting wires out about 3 inches
3)attached new element to connecting wires (2 screws)
4) pushed new element into place and reattached element connector plate to wall of oven
5) reattached shield cover to wall of oven

Removed 4 screw nuts and replaced with new baking element using same 4 screw nuts. Real easy job.

Firs I shut the power off to the range. Then I removed the bottom oven rack, then removed the two screws holding the element in place. I pulled the element out about 3 inches to pull the connecting wires off. However, when I pulled the element towards me a lost on of the connecting wires that attached to the element. I then had to pull the range away from the wall and remove the back cover panel.I then fed the new element into the wholes from the inside of the range and having the back panel removed gave me full access for reconnecting the element wires. I put the back cover panel into place , put the bottom oven rack in and that was it. I was done with the repair. I turned the power back on and everything worked fine. I would recommend removing the back cover panel prior to trying to remove the element. This will save you some time and give you full access to the wiring before attempting to remove the bake element.

1. Removed the old element. Had a little trouble loosening the screws. After we got them loose, everything was easy.
2. Pulled out the element and disconnected the wires.
3. Connected the wires on the new element.
4. Screwed the element back in.
5. Connected the stove and turned on the oven.
6. It works like a new one.
