JB900SK1SS General Electric Range - Instructions

Take off 6 screws of back cover of the range, unplug the white wire. Go to the inside of oven, pull out racks. At the top of the oven is your Broiler element, in the center you will see a rod sticking out with one screw holding it in place. Take out screw and pull temperature sensor out toward you. Reverse steps to put it back together.

removed two screws that hold the element in place and then removed the access rear panel it was much easier to disconnect the element than have to stick my head in the oven to gain access.time :15 minutes.

Removed power plug- disconnected wire, removed cover over wires two screws, and removed old heated strip, held in by two screws inside of oven
Slide in new coil installed two screws, connected two wires replaced guard over wires, plugged in stove, cooked a rubarb pie, success

Had to remove rear cover to connect wires, removing them from the front caused the wires to fall into rear.

First, disconnect electrical power to the stove by turning the main fuse to the off position. Confirm that there is no electrical power in the stove. The ceramic top is held by 10 screws that are closest to the ceramic surface. Other screws hold other parts of the stove and not need to be touched when opening the stove. Once the ceramic surface is off there is access to the burners and the various lights and switches. It is important to determine whether it is the burner that is defective or the switch. Inasmuch as the switch has many moving parts, the switch is more likely to be the defective part. Check the switch by gaining access to the switch connections. There is a metal frame held by two screws on each side in the outside of the stove (same area where the initial 10 screws were removed to separate the ceramic surface). Remove these screws and flip the switch assembly so all the wires and cables are accessible. I checked the switch with a continuity tester and by trial and error determined that there were two connections that in all the remainder three switches had continuity when the switch was in the on position while the suspect switch did not. Replaced the suspect switch by pulling the wires and replacing them in identical positions in the new switch (a smartphone camera became very useful to remind me were exactly each cable's connection was). Restore power by turning the fuse to the on position. Check that the burner lights up. If not, change the burner as well. Same simple procedure of disconnecting and connecting cables to the burner). Make sure to disconnect power before working on the burner. Replace the screws that hold the switch assembly. Replace the ceramic top. Replace the screws. Set stove back in its hole. Reset fuse. Total time: 35 mins. Total cost: Approx $25.00 (switch + delivery). Quoted repair by local appliance repair service: $487.50. No contest. Next project is to fix a leaky water dispenser in the refrigerator.

I went online, found what I thought was the correct part, ordered it, received it--WRONG ELEMENT!
HUBBY phoned parts company, very nice gal helped him find correct element, put new one in the mail to us, and we mailed back the wrong one. We received confirmation via email, and 3 days later installed the proper element. I am back to baking. I bake & mail cookies (55,000 to date) to our deployed troops, so I was lost without my oven! Thanks People!

I ordered a new burner assuming As is turns out: nothing wrong with the burner.

turn off the power at the breaker first

remove the 2 screws under the 'lip' of the stove top (open the oven door to get to them)

prop up the stove top on the cardboard box the part came in

pull off the wires one by one and attach to the new burner OR record where each wire goes first

remove the old burner (2 screws) and attach the new burner

screw down the stove top

try the burner - when it does not work flip the power breaker back on and then try again

bask in the joy, admiration and wonder directed your way by various family members

So easy. Took extra time so the wife would think it was harder. Just read the other reviews for instructions. Didn't have an issue with the wires pulling back into the oven though I did have my "clips" ready.

Pulled out stove. Removed rear panel, and set aside. Removed melted bake element by unscrewing the mounting plate screws, and unplugging both leads from the stove. Replaced in reverese fashion. Easiest electrical replacement I have done.

I unscrewed the 2 screws that held in the element, pulled it out a little, disconnected the 2 wires, got the new element out of the box, connected the two wires on the new element, put the screws back in and it was done! Very easy.

After reading about possible losses of the wire leads, I put together a simple solution. First, turned off the breaker, then pulled the grates out for full access.
Using a nutdriver on the hex-head screws holding the backing plate to the oven wall, I removed the screws, then gently lifted and pulled the element and it's attached wire leads out of the insulated rear of the oven.
Attach a plastic clothespin to each lead above the spring clip attaching the lead to the element so the springy wire would not tend to pull back into the difficult-to-access insulated area "behind the wall" because that would be a real pain to get at.
With nothing other than fingers, the spring clips can then be removed from the tabs on the element, the old piece removed, the new element set in place and quickly re-connected. No Problem!

Easy

Really easy even i could do it , it was a little fiddly and the wires disappeared into the back of the oven , i easily removed the rear panel and pushed the wires back thru and connected them , turned the breaker back on and sparks !!
removed the rear panel again in 2 mins and saw that the wires were touching the oven frame and had shorted out , it wasnt a problem moved them slightly, reconnected them to the element tightened them up , put breaker on and Done , took about 45 mins but i could of been done in 30 with a little more care in the beginning of the job EASY !
