JK1201 General Electric Range - Instructions

Easy repair. The toughest part was disconnecting the wiring from the old element. Once that was disconnected it went very well.

Cut the power off to the oven. Removed both of the racks in the oven. Removed the 2 screws that hold each element in place. Pulled the bake element out as far as it would go and unscrewed the two wires. Then did the same for the broil element. It has a guard to keep it from dropping down and I had to remove that. The broil element is a little more difficult to remove but i had read that in the previous users writeups. Overall it was a great experience from a price, delivery and installation process.

Turned off power. Unscrewed two screws and pulled old element out of oven. Disconnected the two wires. Cleaned oven thoroughly, held new bake element with soft rag so as to not get fingerprints all over it. Wired new element and screwed it back into oven.

Baking sweet potatoes as I write, they will be delicious with my black-eyed peas and ham, a New Year's tradition in my neck of the woods.

Took the old one out and replaced with the new one. It was just awkward to get at.

New element arrived in a couple of days! We turned off breaker to oven, removed the old one which only involved two screws. Then we had to connect new one and re-attach metal square, only tricky part was getting the metal square positioned correctly but that was really not hard, just made sure insulation was covered and plate went back in same position. If we had called a eepair company it would have taken a week or more and probably been expensive!

husband said he would call repairman. I found you and ordered part. By the time my husband got around to calling the repairman, I was finished.
Only trouble was getting my hands to work in the small space. The cover plate was not as big as the former unit so I had to muscle it on. BUT, it was a very easy process and we saved tons of money on a repairman and a new oven/micro. THANKS.

The removal- replacement problem basically involves the shortness of the connector wires to the terminals. Because the burner is close to the top there is little room to use a screwdriver. The old unit used metal screws. The new came with open threaded holes in the terminals with two threaded screws. Used a small 1/4" ratchet which worked OK, but had to carefully bend the ends of the terminals to allow me to lower the element to an angle that would all room for ratchet action. (All design engineers should first have to work in maintenance before going to drawing board!)

On Thanksgiving Day, we were making a pecan pie. The lower oven started to smoke and flame. We quickly turned off the oven, removed the pie, and noticed that half of the lower burner element had turned into cinders. I copied down the part number and serial number of the oven, went to Google, and found the replacement part that I needed. Once the oven had cooled down, I turned off the circuit braker for the oven and tried to remove the burned out heating element. The good news was that I could remove it with my SAE socket set. I then ordered the part on line, knowing with confidence that I could do the replacement myself.
The part arrived one day after I got the email that the part had shipped. That is great service!
I waited till the next day to do the repair since I needed to have the right tools lined up and I needed to wear clothes that might get dirty when working deep inside the oven. A flashlight and a socket set with a 1/4 inch drive were the main tools I needed to do the electrical connections and the oven connection. I also used a blunt putty knife to clean out some of the goo in the oven.
After the repair, I turned the circuit breaker back on and placed a separate oven thermometer into the oven for the first test. The oven worked just fine at 250, 350, and 450 degree settings. Wife is now happy!

Removed two screws to release the burner, then two screws to disconnect the wiring and replace them. Then inserted the burner int position and replaced the two screws which were removed to remove the burner.

Very easy, however you will need a flashlight to see by since the back of the oven is rather dark.

Turned off power at breaker and removed old element and replaced new element.

Removed access screws from bake element cover, removed screws retaining wire connections on bake element, reverse procedure, and heat to burn off contaminants.

The bottom heating element burned out. Ordered the right part and my husband fixed the heating element. This saved a lot of money.Thanks, RM from South Carolina

Getting the part out was easy. Turned the power off (of course) first. The outside nuts were corroded, so had to use a pair of pliers to get them off. The inside connectors were easier to get off. I had a little trouble getting the connectors on the wires. The metal part on the heating element kept wanting to bend. I finally had someone hold that in place while I made the connections. The outside screws were easy to put on. The oven now works great. I think the element was failing over a period of time, and we just didn't notice. I can't remember the last time I actually saw the element get RED hot. Works great. Thanks for your quick service and reasonable prices. Will definitely use you again, when I need parts like this. Turned off electricity at fuse box. Unscrewed old element and removed. Put in new element, screwed it in. Turned on electricity. Voila.
