Oven would not light and gas would not come through.
I unplugged the stove then pulled the disconnected the wires that controled the igniter. I took the two screws off that held the igniter to the pilot port. I hand to cut the wires on the new igniter to some-what match the lenght of the broken igniter. Then I cut the connectors from the old part and used the fire resistant wire nutes that where included with the new igniter and connected it all. Put all the screws in tight, double checked every thing. Finally I plugged it in and it was working.

Oven would not ignite
The repair was simple - I first needed to test the original igniter with a circuit tester. Once I determined that the part was bad, I simply removed it and replaced it with a new one from Partselect. It was a matter of simply unplugging a few wires and splicing the new igniter in with wirenuts. Fairly simple.

The tubes which fed gas to the burners were broken due to raising and lifting the top cover which caused gas to leak under the top cover.
I had no experience working on the stove before so it was all new to me. Removed the top cover. Removed the igniters and the burner connections which allowed access to the splash pan. Removed the splash pan and replaced the two broken tubes. Job would have been faster had I known how to access the front burner controls. As a result, we have a fully functioning Tappan range in our kitchen and the range is much better than anything commercially available. They don't make em like that anymore.

Oven would not come on. If it did, it took a long time to heat up.
Removed the broiler compartment door by depressing the slide stops inward and pulling the door off. Turned off the breaker to the oven. Used a nut driver to remove the old ignitor ( 2 screws ). Cut the wires off the old ignitor close to the porclin. Measured the new ignitor wires to match up with the old ignitor wires and cut them. Stripped 3/8 " off ends of newely cut wires of the ignitor and used the supplied wire nuts to secure them together. Replaced the new ignitor with the 2 screws. Turned on the oven and a cooking I went.

The oven would not light and the house smelled like gas.
I removed the oven floor and subfloor. I detached the old ignighter leaving the wires still attached. I then attached the new ignighter and fed each of the two new wires down through the bottom of the oven floor following the same path of the old wires which were still attached. I attached the new wires one at a time to make sure I connected them to the right place. Then, I pulled out the old igniter. I then attached the oven floors and turned the oven on which now works. The tough part is pulling the oven out from the wall to disconnect the power and turn off the gas. I did not remove the oven door.
