KP26M1XGU5 Whirlpool Mixer - Instructions

took mixer apart down to removal of gear case cover.upon removal of this cover found the bevel gear and hub bevel gear chewed up .removed them both then replaced them both.and also had to solve a clearence problem between the 2 gears they were too loosely meshing. so had to push the hub retainer closer to take up the meshing slack.not sure my repair will hold but i have another set of gears and another solution that will surely fix it.

remove the cover,take out four screw from gear box,remove the gear box,clean all gears,then you see damage gear,replace it ,install new grease.

I have to thank you at Partselect.com. You happen to help me help other people. Now I have several people bringing me their Kitchenaids to me instead of sending them in. I replaced two worm gears on a Kitchenaid 6 and the Hall sensor on a Kitchenaid 5. Very easy to do. Next week I have another Kitchenaid 5 to replace the motor on. ___ Remove silver decorative band/1 screw ___ Remove top of mixer/4 screws ___ Remove circuit board/2 screws ___ remove 5 wires from ckt. bd. (be sure where they go) ___ Install new ckt. bd. with proper electircal connections ___ test mixer/OK ___ Reassemble & retest/OK

I had previously ordered several other gears after I found one of the worm gears stripped. After putting it all back together, the one major gear in the unit that I had not replaced because it looked fine, the bevel gear, also stripped. Learning experience: this is a unit worth several hundred dollars, so don't skimp on a $4 part. Once you work on this thing, you might as well spend a few bucks more and replace ALL the gears - even if they look like they are okay. Furthermore, if you only take 15 minutes to do this repair, as some on this site suggest, you are probably not cleaning the old grease carefully enough. Make sure you properly clean out the old grease to remove any metal from stripped gears, and use a good quality grease to re-pack the gear case.

Removed shroud and gear case top. No snap-ring pliers, so I used two small vice grips, one on each lobe, and spread and "worried" the ring up the shaft. Changed out all ghe grease in case of metal chips. Put it back tegether. Works fine.

the plastic covering the thumb screw cracked almost half way and lost the piece....so the new one is being used to replace this old one...very easy to install

Husband easily put back together and it works great.

The KitchenAid is "old school" in that it is held together with simple (but very stout) bolts and screws. I removed about 10 such fasteners, slipped off the gear retainer, and pulled it out. On Sunday, a very nice customer service rep helped me order the right part, but I did the rest on line in a matter of seconds. It shipped on Monday and arrived on Wednesday. Took about 10 minutes to put everything back. I REALLY WISH everything was this easy in 2012!!!

removed top casing, removed old switch and sensor,and replaced with new ones. It was just a matter of a half dozen screws and unpluging 4 or 5 wires and then reversing the process. Couldn't be easier. thank you

replaced Speed control board. less than 40.00 took ten minuets from the time I started until we were making cookies.

Open the package with the new screw and it looked like the screw was wider. I tried it to see if it goes in and as long as you screw it straight in, there was no problem.

I sent for a new thumb screw and screwed it in where it belongs and now I can use my other attachments.
