I found a video on how to repair mixer that would not turn. Watched video several times and replaced worn worm gear. Getting the old worm gear was the most difficult part of the job. I had to go purchase a pin punch ($5.50) with the correct tool is was easy.

Unscrew and dismounted the mixer, gather all pieces and screws, cleaned and washed every part, took away the old grease and replaced it with a new one, also looked carefully for the lost teeth and found them, Put grease in every part, put back and screwed all the pieces of the mixer, then tried the mixer which worked really well.

Per a video on this site, I removed the stand part, then removed the rear electrical cover and aluminum band which wraps around the mixer. Next, remove the drip ring and planetary gear (use a punch). Then remove the 4 screws securing the bottom housing and the 5 screws around the planetary gear housing. You should be able to pull the upper and bottom housings apart now. This exposes the control lever. Just unscrew it and replace it. Re-install all parts in reverse order.

After I dropped a part of the shield into my mixer the motor screamed and I unplugged the mixer. I found out I had a broken worm gear. I then order the part and per the helpful video I did the repair and I also changed the brushes my mixer is up and running waiting for the holiday baking season thanks to Part select.com Very easy Instructions to follow I am very happy with the results. I discovered the brushes were worn, and one side had broken off and lodged against the armature.I got lucky as I removed the brush caps and the sleeves the brushes fit into (simple job) and was able to hand turn the armature so the pieces fell down into the bottom of the mixer housing.After removing them, I replaced the brushes and the mixer runs like new. Followed up by your précised video, and print copy's which helped me a lot. That's easy!

Repair was easy. Remove the seal ring with a flat blade screwdriver and drive out retaining pin. Pry out lower unit using two screwdrivers, one on each side. Once apart, use spring clip pliers to remove snap ring. Pull out shaft and replace. Clean and lubricate as you reassemble in reverse. Google the model number to get detailed instructions.

I was very happy with the customer services department and the support I received in identifying the part I needed for the repair. I received an email confirming my order with all details. I do wish you had a more cost effective shipping alternative, like Priority mail.
The repair went well and the mixer is back in business, for making those Chocolate Chip Cookie and brownies if you know what I mean.

The knob was attached to the new lever. I began to disassemble the mixer case so that I could replace the lever. However, it soon became apparent that this would be a major project involving many components and potential problems in getting the unit back together. Since all I wanted was to replace the knob, I simply knocked it off the new lever and forced it onto the old one. It is hard for me to understand why Kitchenaid would not make just the knob available.

and I thought replacing the hinge pin would fix it, I used an awl to push out the old pin then used the new pin to push the old one all the way out. That did not fix the problem. Went to a store to look over a new one and saw that the screw under the head at the hinge point on the new machines was not screwed in tight. Turns out that screw is the "bumper" for the head against the neck, so the head is held back by the screw. FIXED

Great! Got the right part, the first time- did not break in shipping. Your web site made it very easy to pick out what I needed.

Replacing the base retaining bracket(what KitchenAid calls the screw cap) solved the problem immediately. The entire replacement effort took no more than a minute requiring removing 3 screws, discarding the old base, putting in the new one, and putting the screws back in. PartSelect was very easy to do business with. They shipped the part the day I ordered it and it arrived as scheduled. Can't be easier than that.

the plastic covering the thumb screw cracked almost half way and lost the piece....so the new one is being used to replace this old one...very easy to install
