SCA1001FSS02 General Electric Microwave - Instructions

I'm writing because I have never in my life had such an easy time finding a part, ordering it, and receiving it! Your service is truly unbelievable. I still don't believe it and I experienced it. Nothing went wrong and it could not have been easier. Please don't go away.

My daughter hand installed bulbs without a problem, took a minute and used a phillips to reinstall the cover. I shopped on-line because I wasted two hours between Lowe's and Home Depot trying to get the right bulb. I did think your postage was crazy high, otherwise glad to get the right bulbs to solve the problem.

Found a service manual on-line, and read some blogs that indicted the Thermal Cut Out devices that are basically thermal fuses. I removed the device from over the range, which turned out to be not 100% necessary, but made the repair much easier. Found that the Cavity TCO was certainly burnt, and tested bad with an Ohmmeter. The Hood TCO tested open, so I assumed that device was bad, which turned out not to be true. The TCO's are one shot, so I found PartSelect in a search engine, and entered my product model number. The parts were all clearly identified, so ordering was easy. Replaced the parts, bench tested the repair and re-installed the device. Way cheaper than a service call and I also replaced the long burnt out vanity light. This bulb burnt out in less than a year, but a serviceman had told me that the entire device had to be dis-assembled to replace the part, which is not true. This part can be replaced without removing the oven from the over-the-range mount, as can the three TCO's in the oven.

Removed cover, diagnosed problem, ordered part from Parts Select, received part in 2 days, replaced part, tested and replaced oven into built in space.

The instructions for removing and installing the new bulbs appear to be great; however, nothing tells me how to remove the microwave from the mounting so I can then invert it and take care of the bulb issue.

The Advantium Mocrowave has a door handle that is connected with plastic shafts that will break with time and exposure to heat. If it wasn't for a video on You Tube I would've had a much harder time of it. Holding the screws was very difficult, but the hemostat helped a lot. I had to have my son rotate the screws out while I held the spinning plastic part to back out the screws. We got the job done, but it wasn't easy.

Removed vent above door. Opened old door all the way and lifted up. Door came off. Reversed proceed and I was done.

the ones below were easy --underneath take out screws--take out old bulb--put in new one--the one inside a little more difficult--but not bad--take off panel on the front of microwave over door--the light is in a metal housing on the right--take out old bulb --put in new--wore rubber gloves putting in new lights--do not want to touch them with your fingers--i just watched the GE video on the parts website and it told me exactly what to do--if i can do it anybody can do it !

Buying the bulb and doing the replacement my self was the best thing I had done. The same problem happened last year and I had the American Home shield insurance at that time so I called the company and they took three weeks between ordering and replacing the light, they showed me the final bill and it was $240.00....!!! This time I bought the light through partselect, got it within 48 hours and did he replacement myself within 15 min, I followed the instructions on the video and had to do an extra step ( due to the model I have) but I was able to replace the bulb and yooohooo it was working when I reconnect the power... I am a person who never tried to fix any electrical appliance before, but after this experience I will always try to do it myself... Believe me if I can do it and felt it was easy you can do it.... Unplug the microwave. Remove front grill and cover by removing 2 screws on top of microwave. You have to look down from the top. I could not locate the screws by feel. Once the two screws are out, remove the grill by sliding slightly to the left to lift out. Open the oven door to facilitate removal. Then remove the steel light cover (1 Phillips screw in the center of the unit) and unclip the bulb holder on the right. Do not touch the halogen bulb when you replace. Reseat the bulb holder and test by plugging in the unit with the door open. Unplug and replace the light cover and grill.

I had left the door to the microwave open and turned around and hit the door latch assembly with my arm, sanpping off the bottom latch hook. In an effort to take apart the latch assembly it was necessary to take off the door choke cover and in doing so I sanpped a few of the plastic tabs that hold it in place. Undismayed, I then went online, found PartSelect, ordered the replacement parts, received them in three days and in fifteen minutes fixed both of them. The diagrams on the site made it easy to find what I needed and ordering the parts was easy. Thanks PartSelect-my wife is happy again!!!

Removed the door, removed the old choke cover (breaking all the stap catches), removed the slide door latch assembly from the spring (the most difficult task) then reassembly of the latch to spring, sliding into the grooves along the inside of the door, the installing the new choke cover (very easy with the new one) taking care not the break any of the staps. Easy enough! Another difficult task was to re-install the door to the frame. It appears that the lower "hinge" is slightly bent down to allow easy install but the door now makes a slight sweeking sound when opening and closing.

Removal of the bulbs was easy; reinserting was not as easy due to the configuration/placement of the bulbs in the unit. It was interesting that a simple suggestion to keep the bulbs covered with some of the packing material made sense as to not directly handling the bulb itself and causing any contamination of the bulb(s).

Placed the new tray in the microwave.
