MHIK7989 Maytag Ice Maker - Instructions

Most of the stories on repairing this ice maker indicated that was real easy until describing the Amana version. The fill tube attaches differently. The recommendation was to use your old "cup". I have found that to make the change required that you find a philips screw driver and locate two access holes in the motor end of the control unit. you can loosen those two screws (they won't fall out) all of the way and pull the control unit from the tray part of the ice maker. DON'T remove the three screws that hold the control unit together or rotate the sprocket. This will allow you to disassemble the parts that hold the "cup" in place. Just remember "if it isn't coming apart easily your not doing it right".

First I loosened 2 phillips head screws at the top of the ice maker (the one that is close to the front is a little difficult to get a screwdriver on). These 2 screws do not have to be removed. Took 1 screw out of the L-bracket at the bottom of the ice maker. I then slipped the icemaker upward from the 2 top screws and unplugged the electrical wires at the connector at back of the refrigerator to remove the ice maker. I then removed the front cover from it and placed it on the replacement ice maker. I also swapped the L-brackets on the two ice makers as the new one was bent. I then reinstalled the new Ice maker in the reverse order.

No instructions were sent, but 3 screws and one set of plug-in wires cannot be difficult.

I simply removed 3 nut head screews and the old unit came off. I removed the ice level arm off the old unit and put on the new one. I removed the old wire harness and plugged into the new unit. I mounted the new unit, plugged it in and was done. I had ice in less than an hour. So simple my 11 year old could have done it without help.

R&R unit in 5 minutes, very easy...

Removed the old ice maker by disconnecting the wiring harness, loosening to side screws and removing a third screw under the ice maker. Installed the new ice maker following the above instructions in reverse order. Ice maker started working after about 30-45 minutes (probably for the tray to get cold enough). It was a very simple process. Thanks.

After being scammed by a repairman who charged for repair that didn't work, then promised to order replacement, then said he couldn't get it, I was pleased to find your site. Ordered the part, watched the installation video,received the part within two days, replaced it in 10 minutes--it works perfectly. I only wish I had looked on internet before calling repairman recommended by my dealer.

I watched the repair video on PartSelect.com which made the repair very simple. I just removed one nut with a 1/4" nut driver, detached the unit from the clips mounted on the side of the freezer compartment and disconnected the wiring harness. Once the unit was removed I disconnected the wiring harness and the bail from the old unit and installed them onto the new ice maker. It took a couple of tries to snap the new unit into the clips on the side of the freezer compartment but after this was accomplished I connected the wiring harness and installed the mounting screw. Then I place the bail in the on position (down) and about an hour later I had ice.

Removed the ice tray, and the front cover of the old ice maker. Then removed the two screws on the top, the one on the bottom. Unplugged the electrical plug, then plugged in the new ice maker. Next, screwed in all three screws, replaced the cover, and ice tray. Replaced the "Ice tray full wire" from the old ice maker. Was making ice in about 5 minutes.

I pulled the old one out and went on-line to find a part. Once I found the right sight that had the part I ordered it and had it shipped to my house. When the part came in just a few days I installed it and now it's working just fine......

Initially I turned off the power to the unit ( I found no need to disconnect water source. I believe it is controlled by the unit and is in the "off" position when powered down) then I loosened the top two screws, removed the bottom screw and slid the unit off of the upper mounting screws. Taking a flat screw driver blade I pushed down on the connector's locking nib within the maker and released the connector. I then reversed the procedure to reinstall making certain that the connector was fully pushed in. Tightened things down, turned on the power and had 'cubes" in about 1 hour. Easy fix, "repair" stories on site make this incredabily simple.

Trouble shooting was the difficult part. All advice was to replace the valve but water did not leak with icemaker removed. Found the release coating in the icemaker tray had cracked and peeled away. Since this is also the water seal, the tray would drip water after filling, before freezing. The new icemaker solved the problem.

The repair was easy.....took out a couple of screws, and it was out. Put a couple screws in and it worked right away.
