1068221680 Kenmore Freezer - Instructions

Replaced the refrigerator and removed doors to put the old unit in the basement as an overflow fridge. Noticed the cams broken/worn/missing on bottom door hinges. Ordered parts. When parts arrived, installed them and fridge back in operation. Parts kit had screws with slightly different sized heads, and if you used the wrong ones to mount the cams, there would be a clearance problem. There were no instructions with the parts to explain this. There also were a couple of plastic parts in the kit that were not used - no explanation given.

Part-fect!!!

I have a KitchenAid side-by-side refrigerator and the right door clunked everytime it opened. We think it was damaged when contractors had to move the fridge and probably were too rough with it. I went on line and found that I could actually repair it myself (thanks to this web site, a great web site, by the way). I researched and found out through others that I needed a new door closing CAM kit. I only needed to fix 1 door, but bought the whole kit anyway (PS358690, Door Closing Cam Kit)to have spares. The kit showed up, I followed the great instructions via the video to remove the door, replaced the upper CAM on the door first and then ran into a snafu with the lower cam. The hinge on my model fridge does not have a replaceable CAM, it is physically attached to the door hinge. The instructions that came with the kit showed a hinge that was not my hinge - sigh. I had to put back all the old clunky parts, put the door back on and go order a new hinge (hopefully). Luckily there was a hinge available for my model with the CAM installed. I purchased it (PS331817, Door Hinge with Cam) and it came quickly like the other parts. I took the door off again (I knew how to do it this time), I replaced the hinge with ease, put the door back on and it is no CLUNK-FREE - Smooth like when we bought it. Thanks to everyone who wrote in about their clunking issues and thanks to PartSelect for the parts and the help.

I found this part on PartSelect. I was so excited it also showed a video on how to fix the door. My neighbor said he would help me and I ordered the pkg. It took 3 days to get here since I ordered Friday night and the part arrived Tuesday , this was the Easter Sunday week end also. Well the video said it was easy to do and I think it said it would take 15 min. My neighbor had it fixed in 10 min. I could not be happier. Thanks Part Select and my neighbor Mike.

Watched the video and viola, it was done. This was on the refrigerator side. Probably should have unplugged it, but didn't. One suggestion is hang a sheet in front to keep the cool in as best you can, even though it went really quickly.

Just loosened the screws at the top of the door hinge bracket, lifted the door off the hinge and set down on its side. Removed the broken cams, both the door cam & Cam on the lower hinge. Discarded the old parts after making sure the new parts would match up with the holes and screw holes would align. Installed a new cam on both lower hinge bracket and bottom of the door with new screws provided. Added some lubricant to minimize future wear and tear and re-installed the screws. Lifted the door back onto the lower hinge pin, Lifted up the pin on the top of door bracket until the pin would slid into the hole on top of door. Tightened the screws on top of the door hinge bracket. checked to make sure door sealed tightly around the perimeter of door opening and we were done. Total time was about 15-20 min. Googled for a solution to how to fix a refrigerator door that would not close. Was directed to a video from PartSelect. Was wrong brand, but I got the general idea. Then, I looked up a refrigerator repair for Whirlpool. Called PartSelect with my model number and ordered a Cam Kit. Total cost shipped $20. Arrived in two days during the Holidays! Nice! (Ordered 12/23, Arrived 12/26). Opened package, fired the video up. Fixed in 15 minutes. Amazing!

I tried to just replace the cover rather than the whole unit but it was impossible - the cover would not go/stay on. I tried to remove the old unit completely but it would not unplug it was practically fused to the back of the fridge and the liner was cracking. I ended up breaking the cover and jerry rigging it over the bulb to prevent items in the fridge from being able to touch. Bad solution.

I took the upper three screws pull the door up and then removed the broker part in the bottom of door by removing one screw. Install new part and put door back securing it by the three screws on the top of regrigerator. Very easy

Fridge side: Remove all door bins. Close the door. Pry off top hinge cap. Using 5/16" nut driver, remove three screws. Remove top hinge by lifting it up. Place pad on floor to prevent marring. Hold door at sides. Open door halfway and lift it up and off the bottom hinge. Do not let door fall! Set door on pad. The lower and upper cams are different; do not mix them up (check the parts list). Remove the old lower cam from the hinge (on fridge) and install new lower cam with new screw. Remove the old upper cam from the bottom of door and install new one with shoulder screw provided. If the old cam does not have the shim, do not use the shim from kit. The kit has extra parts and screws. Lift up the door and set it on the lower hinge pin and close it. Reinstall the upper hinge and shim loosely with the three screws. Adjust the door before tightening the screws. Check that the gasket is compressed evenly all around. Open and close the door. The door should close easily. If the door does not close easily, remove it again and smear some Vaseline on the lower hinge pin and cam. Replace the door and put a little Vaseline on the upper hinge pin before inserting it into the door. Finally, replace the upper hinge cap and replace the door bins. Repeat procedure for freezer side. This fridge does not have water/ice dispenser in the door.

Received the part the day after ordering. Appreciated the quick service and repair took less than a minute.

Took socket out and replace it with new one. Very easy. W saved alot of money doing it ourself.

Followed the Partselect instructions - removed door, removed old cam and replaced with new cam. One lesson learned. There are two cams - one that sits on hinge below door and one that is up inside bottom of door. If you are replacing one, replace them both.

I watched the video on you tube and followed his instructions. It was very easy, it took about 20 minutes from start to finish.
