WGD4870BW0 Whirlpool Dryer - Instructions

Unplug dryer from mains. Remove the back of the dryer. Thermal fuse is located on the left hand side near the bottom as you face the back of the dryer. Remove fuse and connect new fuse. Never repaired an appliance before and this was so easy!

For the Ignitor - As involved as taking the dryer completely apart sounded, it was super easy. 1-take out the lint trap and remove the two screws there. 2-Pop open the top with a screw driver and swing the top completely over/back. 3- remove the two screws holding in the front panel and remove the panel. 4- loosen the belt by pushing on the tension roller under the drum on the right and remove the drum (its super light) use the belt as a handle. 5- remove the screw holding in the ignitor and replace it with the new one. Be careful to not touch the new ignitor. Then go backwards putting it back together.

Was not sure what was wrong but the Part Select site allowed us to view other repair issues and solutions. We ordered the kit, it arrived the next day (how is that possible) and easily put the parts in and chaching...money saved and dryer works better than ever. Cleaned out years of fuzz behind lower access panel and noticed where the igniter sits there is a metal tube about 1 inch in diameter. It had rust on the end and was starting to flake away. Found some helpful hints about how to test the igniter. Very easy, just used an ohmeter. Unplugged the 2 pin wire connector and checked for continuity. 1 lead on 1 pin and the other on the other pin., igniter side not the harness side from the dryer. A good igniter should read less than 5 ohms. I don't know the spec. exacttly, but it should not read open or infinite resistance. My meter read an open circuit. Removed the tube and igniter assembly, mine only 2 small bolts. I found the igniter element cracked. Ordered and installed igniter and tube assembly. This was a very easy install. 20 year old dryer works great and it's better than spending $500.00+ on a new one.

Unplug dryer. Remove the front bottom panel of dryer 2 screws, then unplug wire connector to the old igniter then unscrew one screw holding ignitor then wiggle out. Open new igniter wiggle back in place insert screw tighten, (getting this screw back in is a little hard) replug wire connector to new igniter replace front panel with two screws. Plug in dryer and there you go drying clothes again. Wife all happy again.

Followed the video .... Also installed another part. which was a kit. the video here showed the third wire being installed. The video on repair clinic did not show where to attach the third wire (orange wire). The Kit and the Thermostat was installed with 25 mins. Thanks

First i removed the rear panel on the dryer.the removed bothe thermostats that were on the blower housings.unpluged all wiers and installed new thermostats.reinstalled the wiers in there proper locations...note to log the location of the wires when removing from old switch.reinstalled the rear panel and hooked dryer back up and test.

Be very careful of burrs on the edges of the steel inside the dryer. I cut myself badly when reaching into unplug the switch.
Procedure: Lifted the dryer top by pulling forward and rotating front up. Removed 2 philips screws holding the switch at the door. Reached into dryer and unplugged bad switch. Inserting small blade screw driver at the edge helped release the plugs detent. Installed new switch using reverse of above.

I called an appliance repair company to do a diagnosis and was told the timer would need to be replaced. Parts and labor was quoted at $290. The dryer isn't worth that much. Found a video on this site on how to replace a timer for my model of dryer. Ordered the part for $116 and replaced it myself. The video instructions were exact step by step.

The first thing I did was call my friend Donnie who manages some apartment buildings and who is always complaining about fixing things and getting the right parts to fix things. He told me what to order from PartsSelect and when the parts got here I called him up and he did the repair work.

He was reluctant to do the work at first but after he found out I had ordered the parts from PartsSelect he was happy to do the work. Removed the Lint filter, then lifted top panel and rested the panel against the wall.
Disconnected connector attached to the door panel.
removed screws, from both side of door panel and lifted door panel up and out.

Moved Idler pulley to the right taking tension off the drum belt, lift the drum out with the drum belt.
removed old drum felt seal and removed old residual glue, reglued and installed new Rear Drum Felt Seal.
Installed new Idler pulley Assembly and reassembled in reverse order.

Removed two screws from lint trap and pried front of top up gently. Top hinges backwards which is convienent. Two more screws take the front off. Removed drum and old parts. Removed rollers etc. Per the instructions. Cleaned inside of unit with a shop vac.

Reassemble unit and test. Nice and quiet again and working well. Great service fro. Partselect.com.

Used the maintenance kit....followed the movie tutorial. I also used an empty gallon plastic container to support the front of the drum while stretching the belt over the motor pulley. For the rear drum rollers, before sliding them on the shaft, I put a light grease film on the shaft. After the repair, the dryer runs quieter.

Followed video you give on your web site very use full used putty knife to undo clips holding on the top lifted top unplugged wire for door switch undid two bolts with socket set lifted off front panel of dryer first changed heat sensor 1 screw unclip wire put on new sensor re clip wire bottom part of sensor goes into a slot line up hole on top put screw back and tighten for the igniter kit unplug wire clip remove on screw with socket set have to put new igniter on bracket with new screw included with kit be careful no to bang igniter when replacing it replace it with screw re clip wire replace front of dryer with two bolts replug wire for door switch close top for thermal fuse and thermostat internal- bias remove nine screws on back of dryer take off panel disconnect vent on my gas dryer had to shut off gas supply and undo gas line thermostat internal -bias and thermal fuse are easy to do thermal internal bias has four wires and one screw just replace wires the way they came off replace screw same with thermal fuse two wires one screw just reverse process be sure not to mix up wires replace dryer back with screws hook up gas line check for any leaks turn on gas supply hook up vent and you should be good to go test dryer hope this help someone like others helped me.

Removed and replaced both the thermostat sensor and the ignitor. Tested thej dryer and it worked. Replaced the front panel and it was good to go.
