MGDC465HW1 Whirlpool Dryer - Instructions

My son got it in the mail for me and snapped it right back on.

I took the dryer apart ( using a repair book ) It was Super Simple to do I only needed a extra set of hand's to hold the drum in place while reassembling it. removed the hold down snap on collar's on the Motor ( after removing the Blower from the back of the dryer ( super simple. Extra set of hand's needed ) Reassembled in the same order. And now The Dryer work's like NEW..Shure Beat Buying a new Dryer..

PULLED THE DRYER APART TO GET TO THE MOTOR , REMOVED MOTOR , LOOKED FOR MODEL NUMBER OF DRYER AND DID RESEARCH ON WHERE TO BUY THE MOTOR AND BOUGHT FROM PARTS SELECT BECAUSE BOUGHT FROM THEM BEFORE

Partselect order confirmation email included video instructions of how to change the door switch on my model dryer. Like others I had a pause with the switch connector. I viewed the video again and the instrucions showed to use the putty knife tip to push down on the connector tabs and it came right off. Replacing the switch was easy as the video instructions. Fast shipping of the right part at a good price. The video was pricless. Thank you partselect.

Timer-Removed the screws from top back panel from behind the dryer. Removed the screws on timer. Replaced one wire connection at a time. Remounted timer and put panel back on.

Thermal fuse- also because it seams to fail a lot and I was already working on the dryer. Removed lower back panel. Found fuse. Unscrewed the one screw. Disconnected fuse and put new one in. Kept old one as a back up.

Total time between replacing the thermal fuse and the timer-1/2 hr.

A little pricey, but the dryer is only 3 yrs old and I was able to fix it! Hope it will last us for several years.

it took loess than 10 minutes to change the door switch after watching the repair video

I typed in on my brouser Repair Kitchen Aid Dryer door switch.
And on You Tube up came several videos showing me how to ewmove the switch and install the new one.

The hardest part of the job was not instaling the switch but the dryer Vent hose from the back of the dryer after I puled it away from the wall, it disconnected and the I had to Pull the Washer out which was right next to it so I could put the vent hose back to the dyer. I has to disconnect the Hot/cold water line pull the washer out connect the dyer hose reconnect the cold /hot water lines and yada yada yada

Found a U tube video to be useful. Remover 2 screws under the filter lid. Used a putty knife blabe wrapped in masking tape to unclip the lid. 2 screws to remove the switch. Biggest difficulty is seperating the electric connector. installed replacement switch and closed lid.....reality is this is a 15 minute repair. The extra time was to take the time to remove dust and lint from behind the dryer. Easy repair.

Just popped it into place needing no tools at all. Took less than a minute.

Followed instructions, except to advoid sharp edges, and completed the job in under an hour.

First watched a youtube video on the process. Took off front cover. I'd already replaced a belt so I knew what to expect. Two screws holding the retaining plate on top of Coil Valves (both). One screw was a bit seized, so a bit of persuasion w/ the pliers was in order. There was no info on which way up, but luckily I noticed a bump on each valve, and two matching holes on the retaining plate. (Note to others trying this) Of course while re-assembling a dropped and temporarily lost a screw, then one of the machine screws that hold the front cover on, but other than my stupidity, and frustration that job was easy. The cycling thermostat I just got "just in case". I knew the main thermostat was working, but couldn't accurately check this one, so I got a spare and replaced it. I'm sure it was one of the valve coils as I'd read another user had an issue where the coil would work fine at first, but after it got hot would not work. After a cool down, it'd work fine again. So all in all, easy job.

Checked four thermocouples all showed continuity with my multimeter so they were all good. I'd read that the coils commonly went out and that these were the symptoms. Hey, it's very simple in there. Not much else could be wrong. I had a Maytag repairman come out. At first he said the problem was a blocked vent. I knew he was wrong. Then he said one of the thermocouples went out. It was $80 for him to come out. It turned out that his second diagnosis was wrong too. To repair the dryer by Maytag would have cost me $240. I gave him $80 and bought the coils for $37. They are EXTREMELY easy to replace: two screws held a bracket that held two coils. With the bracket off, I took off the old coils and slid on the new ones.

Half of my pulley was broken off so there were no wrench flats to take it off. I was able to remove it using Channel Locks and the 7/16 wrench shown in the video.

Hint: Use a one gallon ice cream bucket to hold up the drum while connecting the belt. It makes it much easier and gives you more clearance.

Well, here's the rub...in order to find out what part I needed to order, I needed to take the dryer apart to where the gas controls are, and there on a sticker was a part number for an LP conversion kit. But, in order to get to that gas valve unit, I fumbled about figuring out how to take this brand new dryer apart, since there were absolutely no instructions whatsoever in the owners manual. And once apart, and pretty much all apart, I wondered how it would be that the Maytag repair man would be so lonely, as he'd have plenty to do.
However, the kit had great instructions as to how to take it apart and change out the orifices.
