WED560LHW0 Whirlpool Dryer - Instructions

Being from the old school where we never assume to know what the problem was, so took out the heating element to inspect which I found that the element had a broken coil which confermed my suspicions. I ordered a new element on Saturday from paRts select on Saturday and recieved it on Wednesday Ann the rest was a matter of reassembling which was a breeze since I foot plenty of pictures.

Remove two screws holding front panel of dryer. Heating element is on right side, in a protective tube. Remove the six wires connected to the tube, noting their placement. Remove two screws from front metal bracket holding in the tube. Pull tube out. One screw is holding the heating element in the tube, so remove that and you can replace the element. Then reverse to put it all back together. Clean out all of the lint inside the dryer.

We removed front cover, then removed the part in front of the element. Removed old element after taking out screw that held it in. Then placed new element in.

Everything worked perfectly---thanks to the suggestion of your call center agent. She suggested that since the replacement door handles were no longer available, I should consider repainting them--it worked like a charm. Please tell her she was a life saver. We rent that house in Fl and my returning tenants had complained about the discoloring refer handles. Thank you

Removed rear cover (6 screws) unpluged harness from motor control and removed same. Replaced motor control reinstalled harness. Replaced rear cover. Parts used motor control board.

diognostic suggested thermal fuse or thermistor. Thermistor tested low resistance (<2K olms). Replaced thermistor and dryer heat returned.

flipped THE BREAKER (very important!). Removed the cover on the bottom of the dryer (2 screws), made easier because dryer is stacked on top of washer. Removed the heater box (3 screws). Thermistor located on top of the blower housing (right side). removed old thermistor (2 screws) and unplugged the wires. Plugged the wires into new thermistor, installed the thermistor, replaced the heater box, then tested the dryer. It seemed to work fine. Replaced the cover. It has worked fine ever since.

Using Partselect to troubleshoot, I determined the heating element was shot. Upon receiving the part, I disassembled the unit, inserted the new element and reconnected everything. It couldn't have been simpler and saved me a ton of money.

1) Unplug the dryer. 2) Remove lower front panel, use screw driver to push down then pop the top forward. 3) Heating element is on the right. 1/4 inch nut driver removes front plate and the screws holding the foot in place.4) Remove the two wires connected to the heating element and pull the heater toward yourself 5) Remove the screw next to where the two wires connected to the heater, It takes some effort but it will slide out the heating element. Slide the new element in, put in screw next to terminals, slide heater back into place, put foot screws in, put deflector back on with screw, connect the wires back onto the heating element, put the front cover back on, plug in the dryer and test. It will smell for about a minute being new.

Disconnected power from dryer (safety first)! Removed bottom front panel (two screws hold it in place). Then remove the two screws that hold the sheet-metal bracket/guard in place in front of the heating element. Disconnect the two wires from the heating element terminal (white stripe wire is on top, remember for re-install purposes). Remove screw that holds heating element in place. Remove heating element from the vent housing. NOTE: The old heating element will be difficult to remove, it's a tight fit AND there's a spring on its' side that holds it tightly in place...beware that the edges are sharp; I used a pair of pliers to pull the element out in order to protect my hands. Once the old element is out, put the new one back in its' place...again watch out the edges are sharp and the element fits tightly into the vent, so if you have mechanics gloves now's the time to put them on to protect your hands, as the edges of the vent and element are sharp. Once the element is into place, secure into place with screw on left side, re-attach wires (white stripe on top terminal), put the guard back into place, close up the bottom panel, and power up.

1) Unplug dryer from wall. 2) Remove bottom panel on front of dryer below door. There are 2 screws. You will need a 1/4" nut driver. 3) Remove 2 screws (same size) holding the clip in place at the front of the element housing. Then remove clip. 4) Pull housing and element forward. Will take some twisting and angling to get it out. 5) Make a diagram showing which wires go to what terminals. Then pull wires from terminals. (Now would be a good time to remove lint and trash or in my case that bank card I lost last year from bottom of dryer.) 6) Remove screw holding coil inside housing and pull coil from housing. Use pliers and some muscle. 7) Install new coil and replace wires, housing, and panel doing this process in reverse. For internal bias thermistor, while front panel is off, find the part inside. It is toward the center near the front of the dryer. There are 2 wires and 2 screws 1/4" hex heads. Remove wires, remove screws, and replace.

First I replaced the heating element. That did not fix the problem, so I used an ohm meter to test the thermostat and fuse (thermal cut-off). One of those was bad, so I ordered the thermostat/fuse conbo and put those in. The hardest part was getting the wires to the right places. I labeled them with masking tape and a sharpie, but maybe they are sized so they only fit one place. I didn't check. The actual work of changing out the parts was super easy. I recommend testing those three parts-heating element, thermostat, fuse-with an ohm meter before buying something you don't need. I now have a spare heating element and thermostat. I should be good for another ten years!

Pretty easy to fix, hardest part was having to get the screws out of the inside of the dryer to replace the sensor itself. Once that was done it was pretty quick! PLUS super fast shipping on my part!! Was fixed before any repair places even called me back!!

I removed the front lower cover to the unit, located the heater and removed that. I installed the new unit and closed everything back up.
