SSG709WF Speed Queen Dryer - Instructions

1)Pulled electrical connectors off each of two gas valve coils. 2)Removed two Phillips screws and removed coil retainer bracket. 3)Lifted off two old coils and replaced with two new coils. 4)Replaced coil retainer bracket and plugged back connector on each coil; total coil replacement time is less than two minutes. 5)Confirmed gas valve opens and gas ignites every time over a two day test period. 6)Re-installed door. two screws on lint screen push up top two screws on front cover. two screws on coils lift coils off put back together. less than 10 minutes. all done

Unplug the Dryer; remove the lower exterior cover and white plastic drum vent with nut drivers. These two fuses will be setting on top of the function board in front of the gas heating tube.
With a short screwdriver, remove the fuse cover/holder, lift fuse and unplug, replace, re-plug, screw back the cover/holder and you’re done.
Reverse your initial actions...

replaced the two coils, which took about 10 minutes

Removed front panel unscrewed the 2 screws on the coil cover. The coil with two prongs had to upside down 3 the prong coil right side up that only way the cove will fit, plug them in re attach the cover and your done

Parts came as ordered and in really good time. The valves were very easy to install, just a matter of removing lower housing and the two screws holding in the old valves. The plug and play, no calibration needed and the dryer works like new. Very easy fix and the instructional videos were very helpful. Saved a lot of money doing it myself.

Removed 2 screws at the lint filter, unplugged dryer, next I popped the top off with a standard screw driver lifted the top all the way up and secured it from falling back down, used a 5/16" nut driver to remove the top 2 screws holding the face on, disconnected the door switch, pulled the face panel off and set it aside, then I removed the tension pulley on the bottom and took the drum out, unscrewed 2 screws holding the coils removed the old coils and installed the new reconnected the leads to them, vacuumed out the cabinet and motor, inspected all moving parts for wear, including the belt, reinstalled every thing in reverse order, had job complete and ready for clothes in 9 mins, it helps to have your son/daughter hold the drum against the back wall while reconnecting the tensioner and belt.

I replaced the two coils that regulate the gas to turn on and the other to hold open to burn, unplug two connections and remove 2 screws and then replace the coils less then 5 minutes to do this,

Removed two screws from front panel and lifted front panel away, Turned it to the left so I could keep the door switch connected. The dryer would heat when it was first started, but then the burner would go off and would not come back on. I ran the dryer with the front panel off and could see the igniter glow and light the burner, but after the burner cycled off, the igniter would come back on but the gas would not come back on. I could tell it wasn't the thermostat because the igniter would come on, so I knew it must be the gas valve, and therefore probably the coils. The instructions on the website said that the coils were frequently intermittent, so that seemed like the problem. I tried checking out the coil resistance with an ohmmeter to try to confirm that, but couldn't really tell anything that way. I ordered the replacement coils Tuesday night, selecting the cheapest shipping; they shipped on Wednesday, and were delivered on Thursday! Amazingly fast! Removed two screws from the clip that holds the coils in place, unplugged the old coils, swapped in the new coils, screwed the retaining clip back on. All done. Before I replaced the front panel, I watched to see that it operated correctly. I could see the burner cycle off, then after a bit, the igniter glowed, and then the gas came back on and lit, just like it should. Problem solved. Put the front panel back on, and that's all there was to it. Well, I did vacuum out some of the dust inside the cabinet while I had the cover off. Just out of curiosity, I checked the resistance of the new coils before I installed them to compare with the old ones. Couldn't see much difference.

Followed videos seen on the internet for my dryer's repair. Went exactly as shown.

I opened the 5x5" door in the front of the dryer. Unscrewed the clamp holding the two coils down replaced/reconnected the coils and screwed the clamp back down

I started by taking the front of my dryer off and cleaned it out. Next i ran the dryer and watched the flame starter circut. The starter circut would work once and then not for a long time but i could see it was tring to light because the iginiter would glow white hot. I then searched online for my model number and found the part select web site. In a few minutes I found a dryer fault description that best fit what my dryer was doing. The part select site should me three parts it might be. I read about what the three parts did on the parts select site. Then by using the process of elimination, with the knowledge I had just learned, I narrowed my suspect parts down to one. The coil for the gas valve must be the problem. So I got my ohm meter and measured the coil resistance and I found that when the coil was room temp it had resistance. But it would get hot after one heat cycle and it would open up therefore causing the gas valve not to open......no heat! I ordered the part and it came in two days!!!! All fixed!

tested all limit switches with electrical meter to see if they were bad. All switches tested and ohmed out fine. then looked in and saw a hot serfice ignitor and went right to the problem. I have been a furnace man for some time which would give an advantage over the average do it yourselfer. Once I found the bad part and checked resistance across the element, I instantly went on line and ordered the part.the part came in one day and it was the exact part nothing generic, put the part in and was drying clothes again in only two days. Thankyou so much and I hope to get another 5 yrs of drying clothes out of this appliance. Jim P.

open the back pannel and use multimeter to check the wirings and everything checks ok. open the bottom front panel of the dryer and turn the dryer on. the igniter works and the flame came out for seconds and dies off. the igniter keep coming on, but it seems that the gas was not coming out. i checked the gas line valve and it was open. i had a good idea it wasn't the wiring or the gas line, it must be the coil-valve,(safety coil), that letting the gas flow. i order the parts, it came sooner, which is good, and it took me less than 10 minutes to install, and i only use a philip screw driver. i thank you for sending me the right part in short period of time.

This repair is very simple. (1) remove the lint screen bracket on top - two phillips head screws. (2) Gently pry open the top of the dryer with a large flat head screwdriver. It hinges backward. (3) Remove the top two nuts on the front panel. Lift the panel upward off the lower brackets. The door wiring is still connected, so I just rotated the front panel to the side. The interior is now exposed. (4) Take the drum belt off the tensioner assembly and pull the drum out. (5) Remove the coil retention plate - two phillips screws. (6) Disconnect the old coils, install new coils. I started the dryer up while disassembled to ensure the new coils worked and the burner fired. But a word of caution ... don't run the burner long with the dryer apart, as it could overheat. After all of this, reverse the process. YouTube also has a couple good videos showing all of this visually. I have very average mechanical skills, and this was an easy job. Another word of caution: most of the metal surfaces inside the dryer have nice sharp edges. Invest in a good pair of gloves to avoid mincing your hands up.
