The switch in the door of the dryer was broken so it would keep running when you opened the door
I losened the two screws under the flap covering the filter or lint screen. With the screws removed the entire top of the dryer slides forward and hinges up allowing access to the door switch. The door switch is removed by taking two screws out with access obtained by opening the dryer door. Replacing the bracket/switch was easy and a simple reverse of the disassembly put the dryer back together. I would highly recommend doing this repair yourself.

The dryer door kept popping open while in use.
I googled the problem, then came across a site where somebody had experienced the same problem, and they changed the door catches to resolve it. I did a search for Whirlpool parts and found "partselect.com". I followed the instructions on the website and located the parts very easily and also discovered that there was a video on how to make this repair. We were tolerating this problem for quite some time and now the problem is resolved, thank you...

Motor would run briefly then stop, then totally quit
Repair was simple, minus pulling the drive motor shaft out of the back fan. The female end of the dryer fan was made of plastic, so the socket wrench cracked the plastic end. Other than that, the repair was simple and easy to do. Much better paying the $88 for a new motor vice paying $400 or more for a new dryer. Dryer has run like a champ since replacing.

Washing machine over 20 years old but still runs strong door switch actuator spring broke original spring was not availible.
drilled a 7/16 diameter hole directly in the center of the two mounting holes filed it square big enough so as the spring tip fits thru now the door closes on the spring which actuates the switch looks and works perfect.

Making loud noise, then will not run
Read earlier posts on the change out of motor with times varying from 30min to days. My ordeal was in the days category. Long story short, I could not get the blower off. The back of the blower has flats to use a adjustable wrench and you can use a socket on the back of the motor. I rounded off the flats on the blower and had to cut it off. Since I had only ordered the motor, I had to then order blower. If you can get the blower off the motor is about a 30min to 1 hr job. I would suggest purchasing the blower along with the motor to save some time.

dryer would shut off, make tons of noise and then wouldn't start at all
My husband figured this would be an easy fix....until he realized the part he had turn to remove the motor was made of plastic and was basically welded to the fan, so needless to say, we are now also replacing the fan....once the fan was loose, it was very easy to put in the new motor and fan and reassemble the dryer...good luck and watch out for those plastic moving parts!

Dryer would not start
First I removed the rear panel of the control sectio and the main rear panel. I checked the switches and fuses. The fuse for the dryer vent was giving an intermittent signal, so I replaced it with one I picked up at a local repair shop.
Since I had started working on it, and due to the age, I went ahead and ordered a motor, belt, and drum rollers and replaced these as preventive maintenance.
Once you realize how everything comes apart, it is not a very dificult job to overhaul the complete dryer.

The dryer would not start
I took the back off of the dryer and then removed the lint chute assembly. Next came the top removal which was a little tricky because the top locks were installed incorrectly from factory. After about 20 minutes for a 2 minute job, the top came off. Now I was able to remove the front and the drum. This left me access to the motor. The hardest part of the whole job was removing the blower wheel. Being made of plastic you must be careful not to brake it while grabbing hold of it and applying torque to the motor side. This process takes two people. My wife helped me and it took about 5 minutes. Leave the motor mounted for this. Once the wheel was off, the motor was then removed, the new one was installed and the process was reversed for assembly. Not very difficult overall and saved me a whole lot of money. Make sure you vacuum out all of the dust since you have the whole dryer apart. It will probably be the last time you see inside it and the dust sure builds up inside after 12 years! Thank you Partselect!!
