PDSR405ED2WW General Electric Dryer - Instructions

Line up knob. Push on.

Checked the fuse box to see if any breakers tripped on the two 120 lines feeding the dryer.

Checked for clogged exhaust vents/hose/etc, cleaned.

Some paint flaking off inner drum around heat vent.

Unplug & disassembled unit. Took pictures for reference to help with reassembly later. Upon removing drum, found sagging heat coils, one broken, some heat damage to the housing near the top. Determined that more than just coils needed replacing.

Also checked each of the three heat sensors (cycling thermostat, high limit thermostat & safety thermostat) with the digital multimeter. All were positive continuity for low temps.

Tested ONLY the cycling thermostat on the kitchen stove with burner set to warm. Check burner temp with meat thermometer to see it exceed 120F. Continuity broke at high temp. Although the cycling thermostat seemed ok with my generic test, I decided to replace it anyway.

My understanding of the Safety Thermostat & High Limit Thermostat is that they work like safety fuses, breaking at dangerous temps, but not resetting afterward. So these were only tested at room temperature, not with heat.

With the unit open, I checked other components for signs of wearing out. Also cleaned the unit more thoroughly.

Reassembled in stages. The belt is the trickiest part to get back on the motor & tension pulley, it's just a little awkward to reach. Tested to make sure the drum moved freely and belt was correct before finishing the reassembly.

Checked to make sure the dryer was still level, after all the moving around, disassembly & reassembly.

Ran several supervised test loads. Felt the temperature. No tripped breakers or smoke. Exhaust was flowing unhindered. Clothes got dry.

remove the broken one and replace it with the new one

stuck it back in the holes just like the original handle. Had to do a little adjustment because I put screwdriver in them too many times to open the door after the original handle feel off, so the fit was loose. Fixed with tape.

Son found out where the bulb was by using YouTube. I googled lamp for model number and your website came up. I ordered the part, it arrived promptly, and my son installed it.

Snapped the parts right on. Fast service and easy repair.

It turns out the back of my dryer timer knob was cracked, so everytime I would turn it it would just slip to any setting/time. This was just the matter of pulling out the knob & pushing in the new one. The other issue I had was my dryer would always run without having to start it. This is because the rotary "start" switch was bad. It just took a philips screwdriver to take the backsplash off the dryer to replace the switch. So easy my wife or kids could've done this!!

The timer knob was sent, but the part on the dryer that was broken was a different knob. We were able to use the knob, but it was much bigger than the old knob.

I believe the diagram for the dryer showed the timer knob, but not the three other knobs.

I wish we would have received the correct knob, but the supplied knob is working for us.

this was a part i ordered for future use. i was very happy with the ordering process and speed of delivery from PartSelect.

First thing I did was find out the model and serial #'s of the dryer. I went to a major store to see if they had the part, found out that it had to be ordered and mailed to me. I decided to do it myself, I found your website and I ordered the part. I saved $10.00 by doing this. The part was very easy to remove and install. I just had to remove a small clamp that held the part on to the machine and make sure the 3 wires were secured after I installed the new part. Thank you!

Snapped right into place , less than a minute, if that

UNPLUGGED THE DRYER AND PULLED THE DIAL FROM THE START SWITCH. REMOVED THE FOUR SCREWS FROM THE TOP OF THE CONTROL PANEL WITH A T20 STAR SCREWDRIVER. PULLED THE CONTROL PANEL COVER FORWARD. LABELED THE THREE WIRES GOING TO THE START SWITCH WITH THE NUMBERS ON THE OLD SWITCH. PULLED THE WIRES OFF THE OLD SWITCH. LIFTED THE RETAINING CLIP ON THE OLD SWITCH AND ROTATED THE SWITCH ABOUT 90 DEGREES. PULLED THE OLD SWITCH OUT AND INSTALLED THE NEW SWITCH, ROTATING IT UNTIL THE RETAINING CLIP SNAPPED INTO PLACE. CONNECTED THE WIRES TO THE CORRECT NUMBERED TERMINALS ON THE NEW SWITCH. PUT THE CONTROL PANEL COVER BACK IN PLACE AND REATTACHED IT WITH THE SCREWS, REPLACED THE DIAL AND PLUGGED IN THE DRYER.

This repair was a no brainer repair. The factory replacement knob that I bought from this site comes with a new "D"-Ring. Some other aftermarket parts houses sell the knob and the "D"-Ring as seperate parts. The knob from this site already has the "D"-Ring ring installed in the knob. My "D"-ring was broken and I simply removed it with my fingers. All I had to do was properly align the new know knob with the timer shaft and press it into place. If your "D"-ring is not broken and not still inside the old knob, you will need to pull it off the shaft with a pair of pliers before pressing the new knob onto the timer shaft.
