Actually, my 18 year old son opened package and placed knob on dryer. Absolutely no problems In fact, company shipped quickly and accurately' very impressed with how easy this repair was.

My husband broke the start knob, because he didn't know that you have to select the time and fabric selection first
Ordered a new knob and replaced the broken one.

Broken "start" knob
The start knob had crack in it that was getting bigger, and we'd begun using pliers to start it. Not only was it unwieldy but I thought it would eventually strip the metal stem. Of course this was a breeze of a repair--we just slid the new knob on. But my husband had been certain that finding a replacement knob--or calling a dealing and ordering the part--would be a big deal. I said: "But let's just try on-line." We quickly found the model # inside the dryer door. We filled in the appliance info, the part popped up. I ordered it. It arrived in 2 days. It's like new.

Dryer's timer knob broke on the inside
When I got the knob in the mail, I opened up the package, made sure the knob was identical to the broken one and pressed the new knob into place. I needed no tools to put the new knob on. It was easier than I thought.

broken spindle which required a total switch replacement.
It took longer to vaccume the lint out of the machine than to change the part.
The part replacement is done without any tools.

Timers are made to turn clockwise and break when turned counter clockwise
We are a retirement community and when we opened March '07 the company purchased GE washer and dryers to go in our common area laundry rooms for the residents to use. Because of their age, they will often turn the knob counter clockwise and not the right diirection which breaks the device which is not good. With in 3 days of installation they had broken 2 of the new knobs.
But, the ordering was simple, the shipment was fast and the install was quick for the maintenance tech.

Dryer knobs were cracked and would not turn.
Before I bought the new knobs, I put nail glue inside each knob to strengthen the knobs. It lasted for about 6 mos and I would have to do it again. Needless to say I got tired of the broken knobs, so I bought new ones.
