DE271EDW5 Frigidaire Dryer - Instructions

The repair was done by my spouse. We replaced the rear drum bearing. We installed with the instructions sent by parts select. They were very accurate. The total repair took about 1 and 1/2 hours that was only because we cleaned out the entire dryer also, by using an air compressor to clean and blow out all the lint built up. This improved drying time and the part stopped the noise. I don't recall exactly what tools were used besides screwdrivers. This was our first time to replace anything in our dryer of 12 years old. I feel that if you follow the instructions that anyone would be able to do this repair. We did the repair in our garage because you need the room to work on it.

Follow instructions all most to the letter. In video it was stated to get an assistant to hold static / housing retainer in place to start screws. I put it in place and, used Duck Tape to hold it there while i started screws. Thanks for the deal on parts and, video. I would also suggest advising to check the nylon strips on felt at the front top. Mine were worn. But there was enough at the back of nylon to remove and, glue remainder in place almost as good as new. Again! ''THANKS!''

This repair is easy, but somewhat time consuming.The machine is about 30 years old and needed attention beyond replacing the purchased parts. Initially, the rubbing and thumping sound was intermittent. It got progressively louder and more steady, as time passed, until I finally opened it up to see what was happening. The tub was hitting the blower housing. The rear bearing had become so worn that the tub had dropped low enough to come in contact with the housing. While I had the unit apart, I decided to replace the heating element because it was original equipment and I thought it may have lost some of its efficiency. I ordered the parts on Sunday evening. They arrived the following Tuesday at around noon...a mere 18 hours after I placed the order. All the parts I have ever ordered from Partselect.com, and there are quite a few, have come that quickly. Removing the bearing from the drum was the most difficult part. I had to grab the mounting screws from outside the tub with vise grips to crack them loose. The rest of the bearing assembly was very easy, as was the heating coil. The front of the tub rides around a protrusion on the front panel. On that protrusion, there are three plastic "shoes" that the tub rides on. One of them had fallen off. I purchased a high temp glue suitable for use with plastic and metal, glued and clamped the part back in place. Also, some of the felt seal around the door had come loose and I used the same glue to stick that back in place. Vacuumed thoroughly, reassembled the tub, belt (look for the "this side up" stamp on the belt)and front panel. It now works like a new machine and I figure I saved about $350 if comparing this fix to buying a new machine.

It was super easy! I followed the PartSelect video and everything went fine. Getting the drum out of the machine was a bit tricky but once it was out, the rear bearing kit went in without any problems.

I followed the directions sent by you step for step and the rpair was done in no time at all. Had a little trouble with the roller ball installation but figured out how to install it after a couple of tries. Repair was done with minimal use of standard houshold tools.

It was easy, I handed the part to my husband and he did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The consensus seemed to be that the loud squealing was most likely the rear drum bearing needing to be replaced. Although the repair went very well (great video!), it did not fix the problem. BEFORE you go the route of replacing the rear bearing, first pop up the top and see if a little piece of plastic that is attached to the top middle of the front panel by a screw is rubbing against the drum (you have to have a load going). I removed this part (I could not find it listed on any parts list) and the squealing stopped. I have no idea what the purpose of this part is, except for maybe keeping the drum from dropping too far down if the load is really unbalanced. This plastic part is on the dryer that has the controls on the front (it has the ability to be stackable) and might not be on the other unit that has the controls on the top back. If anyone has posted this as a possible cause of the squealing, I haven't seen it.

This is a front load dryer. First unbolt top cover of dryer. Then unbolt screws and connections to control panel. Next unbolt all screws holding dryer door and front bottom panel. Next take belt off of drum and slide out drum from the front. From inside of drum remove 3 screws and remove bearing then put new bearing on and bolt up the same way you take old one off. Using an 8mm socket or wrench remove plastic bearing cage located at rear of dryer. When unbolting there is a retaining clip and small steel ball to be removed from back of dryer. Replace this the same way you take it off. He sure to grease the bearing cage then replace everything back from putting the drum in first to your last step bolting on top cover of dryer. Hope this helps anyone doing this repair.

First I like fixing things for myself. So I looked the problem up on the internet. Found the repair tech that I needed. The found your parts site. And BOOM. Looked up mt part on your site. Very easy you had everything I needed. And you got it to me quick. THANKS. When the part hit my mailbox. Everything I needed was there. I pulled the plug. Fliped the lid up. Took off the front. Removed belt off the ideler. Removed drum replaced bearing assy. Put it back together. Closed the lid and pluged the unit in. Worked so well I felt like a pro. My wife was tickled pink. Just like a new one. Thanks guys for making me look good and saving me a lot of money. Will use this site again. I give you 2 thumbs up.

After figuring out how to remove the top, front, and control panel from the Gallery series, which is different than the dryer in the video, the repair was easy. Just followed the rest of the proceedure in the video.

I watched the repair video on how to replace the rear bearing and ordered the parts.The video was 100% correct and showed the repair step by step I didnt even need to replay it.The repair went as expected and no left oover parts. My dryer runs smooth and quiet, My wife loves her quiet dryer.

I viewed the video from your site (Parts Select's) and followed those directions... which took the guess work out of the job and made it simple. Also the video alerted me to small ball bearing in the back which might have caused some head scratching if not for viewing the video. While everything was apart I did spend extra time cleaning.
