FER231CAS2 Frigidaire Dryer - Instructions

Remove drum, replace belt, return drum

remove 2 screws rear of drier at top slid the top back and off removed 4 screws on front electronic read out panel and disconnected two wire harness plugs remove the panel removed 2 screws for lower panel at top on either side of rotating drum,tilted machine back removed two screws at very bottom on front of dryer to remove lower panel ,and remove the lower 2 screws to remove front panel.lifted rotating drum up and out of drier ,removed 4 wires on the heating element and four retaining screws from rear of drier to releases the heating element,than reverse the procedure for assembly.

It was a closet type washer/dryer combo. With little space to work I needed to know how to get at the heating element to test it. Was told the tumbler had to come out the front to expose the element. Made the job easy without having to figure that out.

First I watched the video available on the web site. After watching the video, I knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Really made the job a lot easier than it would have been. Some steps were harder to do than the video made them look but I atribute a lot of that to the fact that they were working in a large work shop and I was working in an area not a lot larger than the dryer. The hardest part of the job had nothing to do with changing the element, it dealt more with getting the vent hose off and on. Who ever designed the connection apparartus on dryers, used to connect that stupid hose to the back of it, must know something I don't. I have never had any luck when it comes to being able to get the hose connected and then getting the dryer back in the hole it came out of, without the hose falling off or getting crimped. I am anything but an experienced handyman. I would always call the local appliance company to repair anything broken. This time money was a bit tight so I went on line to search directions to install a new heating element for our dryer. The PartSelect site was easy to navigate and with only the model number found the part I needed. Best of all the online instructional video so so detailed it made me believe I could do the repair. It took me less than 30 minutes to remove the burned out heating element. The new part arrived the next business day and was installed in another 30 minutes. It was so easy I feel guilty about all the other times I called service companies. Also, very upset about all the dollars I wasted. removed the front then removed the belt that turns the drum pulled the drum strait up from the top then removed the bushing from the back wall put the new one in I also put A little grease in the new bushing to keep it from wearing installed the drum and front. realy easy. I'm A Instructor at A technical collage in Winnfield Louisiana and I used this as A project for my students.

The belt arrived in 2 days. I cleaned the inside and it took no time to replace the belt. All I did is removed the front.The video was very helpful.Your magnet is on my refrigerator for future orders. Thanks.....Andy

1. Use flat blade to compress clips so top could be raised. Use Philips to remove 2 screws holding front on. Popped front off and then removed old worn and broken glides. Had to lift the drum slightly when placing the front back on. Screwed in the 2 screws to hold the front on. Lowered and locked top. Be careful not to pinch any wires..

I suspected a worn belt and that's what it was. I watched 2 videos on belt replacement and it was not a hard fix. The only "problems" I could foresee would be moving the drum around if you are not that strong. Its not terribly heavy, just a little awkward. I also sliced the top of my hand a little on the underside of the cabinet when moving the drum. Being a little more careful that wouldn't have happened. Part plus shipping was less then $20, and we now have a great working dryer again. I also got a zap when I forgot I had plugged it back in and was putting the inside screws back and the screwdriver crossed some wires. Nothing bad, just a quick jolt. Remember to unplug it until you're all done!

I followed the vidio from yor web site it was great without it i would still be trying to get done.

Referred to Video and replaced drum support bearing as shown. Did not solve the problem as noise was still present. Called professional repairman, who replaced the belt pulley, along with all the parts I had just installed (came as part of a total kit). I was on the correct path, but just didn't go far enough to check out the belt pulley. If it should happen again, I could complete the whole repair process. Great learning process!!

took front panel off, removed access panel in rear to disconnect the belt from motor. removed top panel (this is a stack unit) take plastic rivets loose from lint trap, remove lint trap tube, pull drum out after slightly pulling up to dislodge drum from bearing cradle, Remove bracket and bearing from back of unit, clean parts of old grease (be carefull not to loose small ball bearing on back) Reassemble parts using moderate amount of new grease, put parts back together in reverse order.
