CE8317W2 (PCE8317W2) Amana Dryer - Instructions

I pretty much followed a lot of the earlier postings on partselect.com that provided encouragement to pursue replacing this part on my 17 year old dryer (sorry, money is tight these days and I prefer repair to $800 replacement).

I'd like to add that I borrowed a pair of snap-ring pliers from work which made removal and later securing of roller onto shaft much easier and probably avoided a lot of knuckle bruising and cursing.

I erred though in a couple of places during the replacement. Disassembly took about 20 minutes. However, when I re-assembled I had mistakenly already put the roller onto the shaft before trying to put the drum back in. That isn't possible so I had to remove (an initial groan but only a few extra minutes in the end) the roller from the shaft, then reposition the drum and then the roller back on the shaft.

I also decided to replace the belt while I was in there and I should have taken a picture or made a drawing of the belt route before I took it off since I was later left pondering how the heck to snake the belt onto the shaft and also the tensioner. A quick trip to the internet though showed me a similar route and reminded me how to route it.

I'd also like to add to be cognizant of the wires on the door and front panel when disassembling.

Anyone with any sense of mechanical ability and a little common sense ought to be able to do this repiar.

I began by removing the two screws at the lower part of the front panel. After removing the panel I was able to access and remove the broken switch which was located on the front panel. I popped out the old switch and replaced it with the new one, reattached the wires and put the front panel on and the jod was done.

Installed the new part. Worked great!

I unscrewed the door catch and pried out with some resistance the strike part. Screwed in the catch and pushed in the strike. Closed door. Voila!! Back in business with assurance.

Just follow the video. The hardest part is getting the top to disengage from the clips.

Unscrewed front panel. Pulled off unbroken wire connecter and popped switch and put new one in. Replaced front panel.

The round exhaust duct in the back my dryer can be removed simply by pulling straight out. This gives full access to the belt tension wheel. Slip belt off the wheel, remove snap ring with snap ring pliers, remove washer and wheel. Install new wheel, attach belt, and reinstall duct by looking right down the middle to line up properly. Dryer sounds like new again. 10 minute job.

remove front part of the dryer and rise up the top to remove drum to replace the belt. than remove two screws for the heating element piece of cake repair.

The repair went very well. The parts were a perfect fit and arrived earlier than expected.It took a little longer than it should have to do the repair because of my recent surgery I had my 11 year old grandson operating the nut driver taking the dryer apart install the parts then reassemble under my watch full eye. You could say it went so easy a fifth grader could do it.

Disconnected dryer from vent and power receptacle, placed dryer on its back and remove the front panel by removing screws along the bottom of the panel and pulling down on the panel. Below the drum the element mounting plate was visible so I removed the sensor and element wires, removed the element mounting screws and pulled the element down and out of its "duct". I installed the new element and replaced the wires and front panel. That's all folks!

I followed the online video on PartSelect website. No other instruction necessary.

Went to YouTube and put in good.. did not fix the problem with the dryer but it has a new belt on it now!

showed starting withe removal of the dryer top. With my dryer, I needed to start by removing the bottom front panel (2 screws). Next the door panel (2 screws). Now I could remove the top panel (2 screws). From here, the tear down went like the directions th My biggest problems were, figuring out I didn't start with the dryer top. Then getting a proper sized snap ring pliers to remove the drum rollers and and the idler pulley.

There was initial rumbling and thumping then the drum failed to rotate under power. I could however rotate the drum by hand. This site suggested the rollers or belt as well as the idler assembly. I decided to renew all the wearable parts and ordered the belt, rollers, glides and idler assembly. It was in fact the idler. The idler wheel had disintegrated and collapsed in the center. It must have run (rumbling) until it finally seized and stopped. Replaced all the parts and the dryer is even better now than new. It was a good opportunity to vacuum out all the lint inside the cavity (that took most of the time and also found $0.36 in loose change). Also found it easier to remove the electrical connections with pliers rather than pull on the wires and risk detaching the wire from the clip.
