ADB1500AWS2 Amana Dishwasher - Instructions

1 - Unscrew the back of the dishwasher with a hex-type driver. The latch assembly will be resting inside the outer door assembly. Make sure power is turned off to the washer - there are a couple of "hot" wires that will attach to the latch assembly.

2 - Unplug the wires from the old latch and plug into new latch assembly.

3 - Place the latch assembly back in place and re-attach the two door pieces together.

4 - Turn power back on at the breaker.

5 - Load dishwasher with the stuff that's been sitting in your sink.

6 - Gloat to spouse/significant other that you just saved $100 by fixing it yourself.

Just a quick note of thanks for shipping the replacement handle for my Maytag dishwasher.  Service was superquick and I was able to save big bucks (no service call).  I called on Saturday evening and the part was here on Tuesday.  The young lady who helped me was awesome and a Pens fan to boot.  I seldom send these types of emails but my experience was worth sharing.

I learned everything I know about the procedure from this site. but here it goes:

Turn off the power at the breaker! If you are like me, you will forget until you are trying to change out the wires and then ZZZTT! you will jump and say somehting your kids should not hear. (like I did).

After forgetting to turn off the power, I unscrewed torx-head screws (its a T-20 driver if you need to buy it --T is for torx and 20 is the size) around inside edge of door to remove the inside door panel. Take care when opening the panel because some wires are still attached to it.

Removed old latch assembly by unplugging it. Normally, the black and white wires would unclip from the assembly, but in my dishwasher, the "quick release" wire connectors going to the latch assembly were not coming apart. The wire connectors themselves were attached to two small switches on the latch body, so I just took the switches and wires off the latch assembly by gently prying the 2 retaining clips away from the switch and they come right off, with the wires still attached. I then removed the switches from the new latch assembly, so I could plug it in to the old wires/switches dangling from my dishwasher. Then I got a mild shock, and sent the kids out of the room.

I was pretty sure there was nothing wrong with those switches--it was pretty obvious that my problem was mechanical, but I saved them just in case. The latch handle itself had broken on one side. Also, upon opening the panel, I also discovered that the latch assembly was no longer securely attached to the control console--the tiny plastic mounts (about 1/16th of an inch wide) that held the latch assembly at the bottom were broken. Surprise surprise.

I took the advice of a poster here to use JB weld to secure the new latch assembly to the console where the flimsy plastic mounts had been. (instead of spending $80 for a new control panel just to get new flimsy mounts).

The latch assembly went right into the old spot. Use a hand driver or set your drill on a low clutch setting so as not to strip the screws going back in--remember, its plastic! The biggest investment here is time--unless you don't have the torx driver.

On a related note, this Maytag is only about 3 years old and already I have had 2 broken rollers on the upper rack and now the latch. I went to the hardware store and bought a couple of 99-cent cabinet knobs that were approximately the same size as the rollers I had to replace. I ground the knobs down to fit in the slide, and then screwed the knobs onto the rack. It took some machining, but it sure beats the $35 (each side!) for the replacement roller mechanism!

You just remove the old unit and set in the new unit. the wheels were already connected.

I know that I have very hard water, but am reluctant to get a softener. I hope that changing the "guts" of the water delivery to my dishwasher will help...already replaced the filters which helped too... so far, it's a little better.

Installation was a breeze. Took off the upper, middle and lower spray arms. Had to loosen screws in filter assembly to remove old manifold. Popped everything into place... had to scrape mineral deposits off clips that support manifold and upper spray arms.
Easy...

1. Removed door inside plastic panel, 2. Removed additional screws holding panel to hinge brackets and control panel, 3. Figured out that this would all have been easier if I'd unhooked door hinge springs first (access from sides), 4. Removed isulation from old panel and reglued to new panel, 5 Reassembled, hooking up door springs last. Voila!

removed inside door panel--then the wire leads--replaced broken part--reattached wire leads --reattached inside door panel--done----------------suggestion--it would be a good idea to include with the new part the screwdriver bit to fit the screws on the door panel ---many people would not have that size Good service from this site

Remove all the screws around the inside panel and separated by size and location. There are two larger screws for the bottom two holes. Marked the electrical connectors for location on the latch assembly. Also marked the top of the two microswitchs for easier reattachment. Removed the microswitchs with the needle-nose pliers and attached to the new assembley. Reattached electrical connectors and the plastic panel.

Shut off the electricity to the dishwasher. I removed all 11 screws from the door panel. After separating the 2 door panels, I removed the 2 door switches from the door handle ( I used a flat head screw driver to help get them out). Then I unplugged the 2 switches and plugged in the new ones. I replaced the door switches into the door handle ( this was not an exact fit because the new switches is slightly larger than the old ones). I put the new switches in place as tight as I could in the handle. I screwed the 2 screws holding the handle first to secure it before I put all the other screws in the door panel. I turned the electricity to the dishwasher back on. Our dishwasher has been working perfect ever since then and it is over 10 years old.

Turned of power at the circuit breaker first. Removed the hex nuts from the inside of the door. Latch is loose know and just need to unplug the power cords from both sides. Install new latch by reattaching the two power cords to it and reassemble. Very easy and very fast shipping had part the next day with regular shipping.

On a Saturday my wife set the dishwasher to wash. The door handle had not properly shut and we discovered the dishes had not been washed. After the threat of handwashing and realizing that the latch assembly wouldn't engage, I decided to take apart the inside front cover and look over the problem. Screws easily came out and inside cover lifted up but not off since it was connected to the handle assembly. Realized the plastic outside handle was broken and wouldn't allow the locking mechanism to engage. Went on PartsSelect.com, found the model and ordered the new handle. I paid the lower shipping costs but the new part arrived very quickly - one day. Relatively easy to assemble. Turn off power, take out inside door screws, disconnect handle assembly. This was the hardest part, required pliers to pull the wires off (note: mark connection sides for reassembly). Installed new handle, wire connections easily seated, put back three screws, turned on power and verified dishwasher would run, installed remaining screws and set dishwasher on. Took about 15 minutes and the part was a perfect fit.

Removed the old part (about 10 philip head screws).
Waited 1 day for the new part.
Unplugged the old part and plugged in the new part.
Job done.

* Partselect was GREAT. They had repair stories that made this job easy (told how to do it). They delivered the part very fast. They were way under priced to other parts places.

1. Remove both upper and lower dish trays
2. Remove the “Spinner /Sprayer” (small nut on the top)
3. Unclip the “Tower” from the top and rear clip
4. Remove the “Tower” from the unit
5. Remove the “Filter Guard” on the bottom by removing 3 torx screws
6. Remove the “Discharge Housing” & “Impeller” (1 – 15 torx screw)
7. Remove and replace the “Accumulator Filter” (8 – 20 torx screws)
8. Assemble in reverse order

Removed all the screws from the door panel. Removed door handle. Replaced it with new handle. Attached switches but did not turn the power off. Replaced the panel. Everything fitted well and works well.

Super easy fix, watched the installation video, did the repair in about 15 min. Helpful site and will gladly return in the future if needed

I removed the main plastic bolt with a pliers and then just used a screwgun with a star tip for all the screws.
I am a 43 year old woman with no experience and I was able to figure it out. The machine cleans much better now.
