New range knobs were needed.
Ordering the new range knobs was very easy with Parts Select. I thought they might not still be in stock due to the age of the appliance, but with the easy to navigate web site, no problem. Thanks!

Gas Valve wouldn't turn
Replacing the valve was straight forward. Getting to it was another matter. 3 of the 8 screws holding the burner bases down to the mounting brackets were rusted out (phillips head slots rounded off)and had to be drilled out usually snapping in the process. After the stove top was lifted off, what remained of the screws was easily removed using vice grips. Mounting brackets were also getting rusted and I'll need to replace them in a few years.
