Product Description
This is an OEM direct drive motor coupling, which provides a cushioned connection between the transmission and the motor shaft. This is the newer version of this part, made with new metal sleeves for added strength. It is located between the motor and transmission on direct drive washers with no belt. If the drive system seizes, the coupling is designed to break to prevent the drive motor from damage. Consequently, this part may need to be replaced as your appliance ages. Never overload your washer, as this can speed up its deterioration. Symptoms of a faulty motor coupling include a washer pumping but not spinning, slow spinning, the washer not agitating, and unusual noises. This coupling kit contains all the parts necessary to replace your existing direct drive motor coupling. Please note, that after replacing the motor coupling your washer may smell like burning rubber for the first few uses, this is entirely normal as the part becomes acclimated to the machine. Each is sold individually.
Works with the following brands:
Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, Roper
Works with the following products
Washer, Washer Dryer Combo
Fixes the following symptoms
Will not agitate, Spins slowly, Will not drain, Burning smell

First, I found it very easy to follow the help on your web site to determine the most likely parts that would cause my problems. The direct drive motor coupling could be the cause of both problems. Also the agitator repair kit was the most likely cause of the agitator problem, So, I ordered both parts. When AI received the parts there w
... Read moreere videos included instructing every detail for installation. I just followed the video for the direct drive motor coupling and both problems were solved with the one part. It took about 30 minutes and was a simple installation. .Thanks for your good service. It saved me a service call or maybe a new washer and dryer set.
Agitator not working correctly and leaking from somewhere underneath.
I watched the videos before I ordered the part and when the order arrived I replaced the parts with no problems. The most time consuming part of the job was cleaning the washer. You will be surprised to find what will accumulate down there after years of service. The order came in in record time so this site gets an A+ for being fast a

Open beer. Remove washer and lay it on its side. Drink beer. Remove coupling and order part. Take nap. Wait two days for new coupling. Open beer. Drink beer. Open another beer. Install coupling. Tell wife to do laundry. Take a nap.
My washer was making a loud rhythmic click/thunk sound during the agitation cycle only, everything else functioned normally.
I disconnected all electric/water hookups and took the washer to a more open area. I tipped it over so it was laying on the back, this way the motor was oriented "upwards" from the central agitator and the motor's weight would be supported during work. Before I took everything out I was able to see the drive coupling from the side and sl
... Read moreowly rotate it, and it was obviously broken into two pieces.
First I removed the metal clasps holding the plastic reservoir against the motor; they were not screwed in so they simply had to be snapped off at the top and maneuvered out of the oblong holes in the motor casing. Then I removed the two similar, but longer, clasps which held the motor onto a metal plate by a similar design. These longer clasps required removing a screw from the top of each clasp (which held the clasps onto the motor casing). After this, the motor required a bit of lifting to take off the plate but there were no other screws or attachments. With the motor set aside, I unscrewed the two bolts holding the plate against the agitator, and the broken coupling was easily removed.
After that all I had to do was place the new coupling and put everything back the way I found it. I would recommend having some WD-40 for the new couplings because they have the reinforced metal in the center; it's nice and strong but it definitely made it a tighter fit especially with the agitator shaft. Overall it took me a while because I'd never done it before and I was figuring it out as I went. But for anyone with experience with tools or similar machines it wouldn't take very long I'd imagine.
Repair time of the problem was easier than moving the washer out of a very tight laundry area. The repair was much easier than I anticipated. The parts fit perfectly , And it was successful.
The washing machine would not agitate or spin. It would only pump the water out
Unplug the unit for safety. Remove the panel between the dryer and washer. it is held in place by three Philips screws. Use a screw driver to pry up the two clips in the back, one on each side. This will release the top of the washer. Pull it forward and lift it off. There are two screws in the top corners inside of the cabinet. They hold

The motor is right in the front and easy to access. First remove the two clips that hold the water pump in place on the back of the motor. Move it over to the left out of the way. Use the 5/16 socket to remove the screws from the two straps that hold the motor in place. Use the screw driver to pry the straps from the motor. The motor is now free and can be pulled back to reveal the direct drive coupling. Remove the defective coupling from the motor shaft and washer transmission. Install the new coupling onto the washer transmission and reassemble in the reverse
I watched the video for the direct drive motor coupling. I didn't remove the cabinet, I turned the washer on one side and worked from the bottom of the washer. I didn't remove the pump or hoses, I just removed the clips for the motor and moved it around so I could replace the part on the motor shaft and then replaced the other part on the

I decided to attempt to replace both the clutch and the drive coupling. I had to take apart the couple to do the clutch anyway. Unfortunately I was unable to remove the couple plastic/fiberglass pieces so I only replaced the rubber coupler. The transmission; however, was covered in clutch dust. Correct diagnosis, correct part, fast shipping and great video.
This is my second successful repair with Fix.com assisting me. My washing machine wouldn't spin or agitate. While on the phone with the Fix rep we concluded I needed a new Direct Drive Motor Coupling. Ordered the part then received it within two days. Watched the repair video at Fix.com comparing it to another repair video I found elsewhere. Referring to both videos and carefully following their instructions, I did the repair within an hour. The washing machine now works flawlessly.
