Detach the latch assembly from the washing machine chassis in four places: (1) the red plastic rod that comes up from the base of the machine, that allows you to over-ride the locking mechanism (I think). The rod fits on the latch assembly with a hole that you twist to remove from the assembly.
(2) A plastic snap-in latch on the back of the assembly holds the assembly in place. Pull gently to remove.
(3) The latch hole in the assembly is seated in the chassis of the washing machine. A groove on the left of the assembly holds the chassis sheet metal. Push the assembly to the left. so that you have some play. Gently remove the assembly. Pull it and jiggle it from the rear.
(4) There is an electric plug that fastens into the bottom of the assembly. On the back of the plug is a plastic tab that you press down (e.g. with a screwdriver) to release. STEP 3. Install the new latch assembly by reversing the steps listed above. STEP 4. Replace the rubber skirt onto the washing drum, making sure it is seated properly on the chassis sheet metal. STEP 5. Now the hard part - replacing the wire ring to hold the rubber skirt in place. The spring was so strong on our machine that I could not pull it apart enough to re-seat it. After trying to muscle it for about an hour, I hit on a different way. I detached one end of the spring from the wire, and seated the wire ring in its groove in the rubber skirt. To re-attach the end of the spring to the wire, I attached pieces of strong nylon twine to the loop at the end of the spring and to the loop at the end of the wire ring. I fastened the end of one piece of twine to hold it in place, while I pulled on the other piece of twine to bring the loops close together. I then used the needle nose pliers to hook one loop into the other. It worked! STEP 6. Restore power and turn on water supply.

Remove rubber gasket by pulling off spring held wire band. Remove electrical connector from lock and take out old lock. Reconnect electrical connector to new lock. New lock snaps in by first sliding in left side then right. Reinstall gasket use pliers to stretch spring. Done
