bake element had ceased to work and deformation had occurred.
This Magic Chef wall oven is a 20+ years old original appliance in my double-wide mobile home. The only literature I have for it does not have the model number nor serial number recorded, and I could find them nowhere on the oven itself. The only help I gathered from the paperwork was how to remove/replace the oven door, making access t

o the element"s mounting screws and wiring easier. MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU HAVE TURNED OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO THE OVEN BEFORE BEGINNING WORK! I removed the two screws from the mounting plate and pulled the two wires off the spade terminals. Then I took a few measurements of the element and browsed the site until I found one with the same dimensions and connections. This site is great as they show many parts laid against a 1-inch grid for reference. The short wait for the part to arrive was the perfect time for my wife to clean the oven (she came up with that idea on her own). Installation is basically the reverse of the removal. Piece of cake! (Now we can bake one)

Lower element in upper oven burned out
found and turned of breaker for oven. Used a phillips head screw driver to remove retaining screw holding old element in place. When I pulled the old element free of its mounting hole, some fiberous insulation was pulled out with it. wall of the oven. I tried pulling the insulation out around the lugs that the electrical leads attach to. But that only disturbed the insulation further. So I just pushed the element into place and secured it with the screws. I then went to turn the break back on and tested the oven by letting it preheat to about 250 degrees. It appears to be working as well as can be expected.
