This is a compression spring for a string trimmer and is sold as an individual OEM part. It is made of metal and can lose tension, causing it to not function as needed. Before you begin this repair, remove the battery pack from the trimmer. To gain access to this part you will need to remove the trimmer head. To do this, press the two release tabs on the spool retainer. The compression spring will be sitting on spindle and can be pulled out to remove. Place the new spring on the spool base and make sure it is pressed into position. With one hand holding the spool base, use the other to grab the spool retainer and line-up the tabs on the spool retainer with the holes in the spool base. Press and rotate the spool retainer back and forth until the tabs are secured with the spool base. This completes your repair.
