This pad tip, also known as a detail sanding pad or backing pad, is found on the tip of the platen in your sander and covering the carrier. Its purpose is to provide a cushioning effect and ensure smooth and even sanding by distributing pressure evenly and reducing vibration. If the pad tip becomes worn, torn, or damaged, it may result in uneven sanding, decreased performance, or difficulties in attaching the sanding abrasive. Signs of a deteriorating pad tip include a loss of grip or visible wear. To replace the pad tip, you will need to remove its mounting screw and peel it off the platen. Please bear in mind that this OEM replacement part is sold separately from the carrier.
