Broken Auger Drum
Very simple fix! Just removed the screws holding the cover over the drum, and then the screws securing the drum to the shaft. Remembering the order and placements of the ice choppers and the block on the drum shaft is the hardest part; however, if you hold a long screwdriver up to the end of the threaded shaft and slide the ice choppers,

block, spacers and washers from the shaft right on to the screwdriver, you don't even have to remember the order they attach in. Just set the screwdriver with those parts hanging from it aside, and slide them right back on after you replace the drum on the end of the auger screw shaft, re-attach the covers and you're done! I replaced the original plastic auger shaft with the aluminum corkscrew shaft years ago, and have had no problems until the drum started to crack and break. Too bad somebody doesn't make a replacement drum out of machined aluminum. The auger and drum are pretty much the only real failure points, and if they were aluminum instead of plastic, that assembly would be almost indestructible. Probably isn't as much of a problem if you let the icemaker do the job, but I don't like the taste of our water (even with the in-line cartridge filter that plugs in to the bottom of the fridge) so I turn the icemaker off and fill the bin with harder "crystal" ice from the store. Pretty sure that's why I have had to replace these components. The ice made by the refrigerator isn't frozen as hard as the ice I buy, so it is a lot harder on the unit. Fortunately, the replacement parts are pretty cheap (under $20), so if I need to do this every few years, it's no big deal.

er) when removed the crusher blades fell out. The problem was gettin all 3 blades with the washers inside the 2 metal brackets. It took hours to figure out how to get them inside those 2 brackets. When we finally got them inside the brackets and reassembled it. It worked fine. How we got the blades inn the right order was divine guidance. The ice maker would not dispense ice.
I watched the repair video that was provided along with taking pictures with my phone as I disassembled the auger drum so I would know where all the parts went when it was time to reassemble the auger drum. It really was easy and the instructions provided were great.
