Product Description

This part is located in the bottom of your appliance and is what supplies the heat for cooking and baking. If your oven or range has no heat coming from the element or is not heating evenly, you may need to replace the element. This repair is considered to be of medium difficulty and requires the use of a screwdriver. Other items that may help with your repair are a flashlight, and wooden clothes pins (to prevent the wires from falling back into the oven). This kit comes with two installation screws and the 240 volt bake element, which is a black metal piece approximately 13 inches wide and 16.5 inches in length. Ensure that you unplug the appliance or shut off the circuit breaker before beginning. Removing the oven racks, and even the oven door can help make accessing the bake element easier.

30 year old bake element went south
Screws out, new ones in, done. The only thing I'll add which had me concerned was that the element photo shown on the one inch grid didn't show the mounting screws at 3.5" on center which is what my oven had. Fortunately, the picture notwithstanding, the new part was punched at 3.5" so it went right in.

Element burned into on back left corner and element flamed up
Shut off breaker to oven and remove oven racks. Use nut driver to remove two screws on the plate at back of the oven. Carefully pull the element forward to expose the two screws that attach element to oven wires. Place forcepts or clothes pin on the oven wires to prevent them from slipping back into the oven wall. Remove the two screws an d remove old element - reverse the process to install new element. When the old element has been removed, it provides an excellent opportunity to clean the oven with no obstructions before installing the new element. Easy job.

baking element fried with flames
Kill power to oven by the circuit breaker and padlock it out so no one else can turn it on while you are working on the oven. Remove shelf units so you can comfortably reach the back of the oven. Unscrew 2 screws holding the bottom baking element to the oven back. Put lock pliers on each wire (so they don't go back into the wall). Remo ve 2 screws holding wires to element. Replace element. Replace two screws holding wires to element. Feed wires back into insulated back of oven so they don't get crimped. Attach new element with 2 screws to back of oven. Turn electricity back on. Test element.

Element burned in half
Turn off the breaker. Remove back wall hex screws. Pull old element slightly forward. Unscrew power screws. Put new element in and attach power back with screws. Reattach to back wall. Make sure plenty of fiberglass in there... I didn't need to add any. Very small gap is okay.

Could not keep the oven at the proper temp. and was hotter in back.
Unscrewed back plate, then used nut driver to remove wires. Put wires on new element. Tightened with nut driver put in place and screwed plate tight. Did same with bottom element. My oven works great now.

Burned out element
Made sure oven was off. Made sure circuit breaker was off. Got a bright flashlight to see what I was doing. Bent lead ends to roughly the attitude of the element. Got 1st screw going by hand and tightened with screw driver. Ditto for second screw. Used nut driver to screw entire assembly into back of oven with two hex head screws. Tu rned breaker back on. Put oven controls on 350 degrees. Held onto element and turned on the oven. Yup it warmed up. Yes I let go pretty quickly - no burns. Waited for the preheat light to do its thing. Put the chicken into the oven and baked it for an hour. It turned out just as hoped for, just like before the element started dying.
