8 inch surface element melted at elbow to terminal block - shot out a 6 inch flame.
Note: This is the first time I've ever tried fixing a stove. First, I ordered a new element. Took a minute to install, but it didn't solve the problem. I ordered a terminal block kit and switch kit. Replaced the terminal block. Took about 10 minutes. Only problem was the shrink sleeves melted. Electrician's tape remedied the problem. Tested the element again. It still didn't work. Following instructions provided, replaced the old switch with the new universal switch. First unplugged stove. Removed upper back panel. Took a closeup photo of switch connections, in case I messed up. Removed old switch, leaving all wires connected. Per instructions, mounted new switch and fitted dial to proper length - took about two minutes. Permanently mounted new switch. New switch wire terminals were not in the same location as on the old switch. No matter, both old and new switch terminal designations are clearly marked. Transferred wires from old terminals, one at a time, and connected to corresponding terminal on new switch. Plugged in stove. Turned on the new switch. Element worked fine. Tested the rest of the stove, just to make sure I didn't mess anything up. Everything worked. Replaced back panel. Cleaned up areas on the stove that are hard to reach while stove is in place. Slid stove back in place. Works like a champ.

Burner had max heat all the time, until switch was set to simmer. Then it was medium heat.
I removed front knobs and front plate. Also removed back top plate. Removed 2 screws that was holding the switch. I let the switch hang by the wires. I installed the new switch and moved wires 1 at a time to the correct terminals. Reinstalled the back top plate, and front plate. Reinstalled the knobs.

The burner would not heat
The repair was fairly simple although tight space for big hands. I wrote down which colored wire went to which nodule as I took the old part off so I would not make any mistakes. Then installed the new part with correct wires and reassembled the face of the range.
