The slide piece is an important component of the mechanism that allows a user to adjust the tension of the chain. If the chainsaw bar doesn't adjust when you turn the tension screw usually the tension gear/pin or the adjustment slide piece is worn or damaged. It provides an identical replacement for a missing or a faulty hardware that was installed on a new unit.
