Is my model the same as the model that has a 5 at the end? For example "kp26m1xwh5" vs "kp26m1xwh" without the 5. Will parts be compatible between the two?

I removed the 5 screws holding the cover. They were square but you can use a Phillips driver. Then I removed the cover on the transmission. All the gears have a place fairly easy to see where they all fit together. The only thing is there is a clip on the main shaft it will need to removed. If you don't have a clip spreader you'll need 2
... Read morescrew drivers (flat ones). One to spread open the clip and one to slide up the clip take your time. There are two gears on top of each other. Remove the top gear set aside the bottom gear has a pin through the main shaft just pop it out set aside. Here is where the hammer comes in to play. Tap the shaft lightly while holding the mixer connector underneath. The gear is on the shaft snug. Now you'll have to remove the all the grease and replace with new grease. Install the new gear in reverse order. Then add the new grease. Take you time and clean the gasket on the transmission cover before you install it. Test before you install the cover. If all sounds good install the rest of the parts.

I stripped the worm gear by overloading the mixer with bread dough.
It is very easy to get the mixer housing apart by removing the screws. the gears and drive are easy to get at and see after the grease is removed.
