This is an authentic Makita replacement part that has been sourced from the original manufacturer to be used with miter saws. The metal flange is used to disperse pressure put on the saw blade by the flange head bolt across a wider area that matches the inner flange. This item is available as an individual replacement part. A hex socket wrench is needed to install the flange.
