I had a 14 year old Kitchenaid Microwave. It started making loud noise and quit heating which meant magnetron was faulty.
This microwave was a built in custom cabinet. I removed microwave trim kit, by removing 4 screws. Removed 3 screws holding microwave in cabinet unplugged microwave and removed it. Removed 7 screws holding microwave cover. With microwave cover off removed old magnetron (5 screws) and replaced it with new one. Replaced microwave cover and r einstalled microwave. Tested it out everything works fine. Easy repair saved me about $300. Big issue was I did not have to find a new microwave and trim kit to fit existing custom cabinet. Wife very happy.
