A loose or unsteady fan may need a new base nut. This black plastic fastener helps join the fan body to its base so the unit can stand securely during normal operation. Replacing a worn nut may reduce movement caused by a loose base, but it will not correct damage to the stand or housing. Disconnect electrical power before beginning and lay the fan down carefully to reach the mounting area. Line up the nut with the threaded post and turn it without forcing it.
