This genuine OEM pre-filter in your vacuum is the first line of defense against larger debris and particles, preventing them from clogging the main filter and improving overall filtration efficiency. Positioned inside the dust bowl, you will know it is time for a replacement when the pre-filter appears visibly dirty or clogged, leading to reduced suction power and airflow. To remove the pre-filter, simply press the dust bowl release button on the handle, detach the dust bowl, and take out the filter from within. When installing the new pre-filter, securely attach it to the filter before placing it back into the dust bowl. It is advisable to replace the filter every 6 to 9 months, depending on usage frequency. Keep in mind that the pre-filter and filter are sold separately.

My instruction book for HLVA315J62 says to remove bag from scented pre-filter. Where is it? I cannot see such a thing

Hello Charlotte, Thank you for the question. Once you remove the Handle Base from the End Blower Vacuum Tube, you will see the filters. The Pre-Filter is #7 in the Diagram listed for this model. We hope this helps!
