Our fridge temp is fine, the freezer is not cold enough. New compressor, new motherboard. Would a bad thermostat cause this type of behavior? Freezer often wanders from -5F to +20F over extended periods, freezer often too warm.

Hello Patrick, thank you for your inquiry. The start device you mentioned shuts off the compressor to protect it from damage if the compressor motor draws too much current. If the start device is faulty, then the unit will not do cooling. You may need to replace it to solve the problem. Glad to be of assistance!
