Washer started smoking... heater element went bad.
Turn off power at the breaker... remove bottom covers on the front of the dishwasher with phillips head screw driver... unplug wires from heating element... unscrew plastic nuts holding the element in place (this is where I used the pliers) ... Inside the washer slide the clips off of the heating element... remove heating element... Insta ll in reverse order.
