Water inlet valve controls the water flow into the washer. If this was defective would it prevent the softener section in the dispenser tray from filling with water?

Hello Ted, Thank you for the question. If the Water Valve is defective it will not send water to the dispenser or enough water pressure to fill the tray. The valve can be tested with a Multimeter. Set your multitester to the ohms resistance scale X 1. Place each of the meter's probes to one terminal. Because the reading can vary from brand to brand and from model to model, there is no one reading you should receive. However, if your test produces a reading of infinity, then the solenoid is bad and the water valve should be replaced. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. No cold water for wash cycle
Disconnect electric plug
Unscrewed 3 screw top back of lid
Removed lid
Disconnected two water hose claps with pliers
Disconnected two electrical plugs
Unscrewed one screw holding double value
Removed valve and installed new one replacing screw
Conceded electrical plugs on valve
Connected water h oses.
Installed lid and screws
Plugged in washer
Tested cold wash.
Done!
