Timer advanced erratically, if at all.
First, UNPLUG the washer or flip the circuit breaker, to remove ALL power from the washer! Check to make SURE it doesn't run! Use a small pocket knife to remove the inner plastic cap, about the size of a quarter, on the program knob. This reveals a small metal clip holding the knob on the timer shaft. Removed this clip and the knob assembly comes right off. Had to watch for the spring behind the knob! DON'T LOSE the spring! Then I removed the four screws, two on each side at the top of the control panel, and tilted the panel towards me. This reveals the top of the timer switch, and the two large connector plugs, with MANY wires on it. There are small tabs on each connector, and pressing on them while tugging firmly upwards, the plugs will come off. Do only one at a time and observe how they are aligned, while you plug each one into the NEW switch. Then, remove the two hex head screws that hold the old switch to the control panel and discard the old switch. Hold the new switch in place on the panel and restart the screws. Place the knob back on the shaft, with the spring in between the two sections of the knob. Then, replace the small metal clip on the end of the shaft to hold it all together and pop the small plastic disc into the center hole of the knob. Restore power and test the washer. From the time the UPS guy handed me the package until I gathered my tools and finished the job was less than 15 minutes! In fact, the actual time it took me was 9 minutes, start to finish. Replacing the two screw on the switch took most of the time.
