What can cause this part to go bad? What is the fluid that is inside? Is there some maintenance that can be done to prevent damage?

Hi Kevin, Thank you for your question. Gauges can fail due to not being handled correctly, vibration, or regular wear and use of the part. Usually the liquid inside a gauge is glycerin or silicone oil. Make sure that the gauge is cleaned regularly with alcohol or solvent that does not contain water.
