The brushes wore down to the brass on the brushes and some of the brass wore off. Could this mess up motor or would I be safe putting a new set of brushes?

Hi Jeff, thank you for your inquiry. It is recommended to replace the brush and holder, part number FIX10179692, since worn-out brushes may cause the motor to underperform before it eventually fails completely. We hope that helps!
